Last nite i attended my centers support group for the 1st time. It was interesting. There were as many post as pre surgery folks which was a nice balance. There was about 20 people there. I think i will find friends!

Most had RNY, many sleeve. No bands as they have their own support group. One lady has lost over 200 lbs in about 2 years, and on other end was a lady who's lost 40 pds in 6 months. Both had RNY. It is so very true we all lose at different rates!

I do have to say tho that there was NOTHING said that i hadn't already learned from researching or from one of you. I felt well informed and pleased with my knowledge level. I have many of you to thank for that!

I also sent a couple of them here... So we may have more joining the group :)

I am too far out from the city for a personal group. I sure enjoy this one. Am I the only guy on this site? I feel like a Biker at a tupper ware party LOL!!!

Interesting observation, Becca! I'm going to my first group tomorrow, but it is here in the suburbs where they only do the lapband. They assure me they have RNY and sleevers in the group as well but I imagine I'll attend most of my group meetings at my center in Indianapolis, despite the one hour drive. -- I want more out of my meetings than just getting my attendance sheet signed!

I love my in person support group. There is always a good mix of pre and post-op, and we have some guest speakers. You are right though Becca, I have learned more here, since there are so many more members online, than I have in person, but the face to face accountability is great.

I enjoy going to my monthly support group too. I have only missed one meeting since I started going last Feb 2012! We have a meeting tonight and looking forward to it. The way ours are ran is the 2 WLS surgeon's talk to us for about 30 minutes and we can ask any questions we want of the surgeons. Then we break into groups usually by surgery type and we talk for 30 minutes. The next hour is usually a program on exercise, nut or patitent testimonies stuff like that. Tonight it is recipes that have been converted to WLS friendly ones. Last month was about exercise equipment and stuff like that. A group of sleeve people I am friends with meet before the meeting starts for about 45 minutes to catch up and just talk. They are great!

i never did a support group thing where you went in person.
i had a yahoo group that i owned for a few years.
now i have a facebbok page called hot toddy's family reunion...
all the gals and one guy that were in my yahoo group are on there...we are all over 5+ years out
and hiya sarge...im a boy too!!

Going to my 1st one tonite
The subject tonite is when is it an emergency
and when to call Dr
Exactly what I need only being 1 month out
But it's every 5 weeks with different topics, some only appropriate for pre- surgery
Need to find a local one

I wish that I could go to an in person support group but unfortunately am too far out for one. They do not offer on here so am so grateful that this group exist. I have been very blessed to find all of you here and the support and information that you provide is beyond priceless. Thank you.
