Let me start with I don't regret this at all! I have had a good recovery so at. I question the fact that I feel ashmed or embarrased for having it. I am 25 yrs old and started this journey at 230 pounds. So I was 100 pounds over weight. I often think to myself If I would have tried harder to lose it maybe I wouldn't have had to have this life changing surgery. Then I think to myself the last two weekends we have spent in Italy and France and I got a little upset because I couldn't eat pasta in Italy or enjoy a nice wine. Then in France I couldn't have a nice local beer with my husband or eat crepes or something lol Then I look back at the few pics we took in Ireland last year for St Pattys day I was in two pictures out of the 700 we took or the pics from Berlin the few I took there but didn't show anybody and then this time in Italy and France an I'm in the pictures and I'm happy. As much as I would like to think I would have done it on my own I wouldn't have. Everytime we go out of town or somewhere I would eat and eat and drink beause I would want to enjoy everything but in reality I wouldn't have. This time in France it really made me realize I can eat small and actually enjoy it. I'm so glad I did this there is no telling how much heavier I would be if I didn't get it now and make myself realize I had a problem. So for those of you that doubt this and think you can do it just truly think if you can As much as I wish I could have I know I didn't have the will power to. Thanks for listening. :)

Also remember that once you did it without the aid of this surgery the percentage of you gaining it back was high. At least with the surgery your percentage of staying at a healthy weight is good. Good luck!

I'm 52 and still preop, but I can tell you... I already wish I had not wasted so many years, so good for you for doing it young! :)

freedom u are right i would lose 20-30 pounds then gain it and then some back. becca thank you, you ate always so nice and sweet im so glad ou are on this site, i cant wait for you to be on this side too!!

Jj im happy i see the difference in many things this time it was me actually enjoying what i was eating and i wasnt tired doing all the walking and i could keep up with my husband and my boys!!

I know this is off topic but omg so jealous! Do you have a career that causes that kind of travel? Congrats on the weight loss! I've been to my favorite French resturant once since surgery and the portioning was perfect! Lol

Thank you for this post! I often think I should just take bull by the horns and eat post op diet now and comit to exercise regimen now and can do it without "drastic surgery" (as people keep saying to me). Why do we feel so much shame and isolation for choosing surgery other than I feel like a failure because I got out of hand and this size? I don't want to feel embarrassed and shameful after surgery and goal. I want to help be a spokes person for us all and help someone else that has there's feelings make the best choice for them.

I love this post. This is exactly how I am feeling right now. I am pre-op and I keep wondering, "but how will I be able to enjoy life without foooooooooooooood"? But then I have to remind myself that I'm not really living my life to its fullest right now. My quality of life has dropped and I've got so many things I want to do that I'm not doing because I'm 160 pounds overweight! Traveling is a huge one for me. I really want to travel, see the world, experience new sights. Thank you for the post!

whitie, my husband is military we are stationed in Germany. it's crazy cause we are around so many close things we drive everywhere except to Ireland lol we've been to Czech Republic, Holland, Austria, Italy, france and all over Germany! i am blessed to have this experience . Tripod Master, i understand people told me the same thing just work harder well i would work hard but then i would give up and for me it was like i would gain the weight and then some so fast!! Dont get me wrong im not at the point where i tell anybody i had few people know but one day i will be there. Astarynight- i truly do enjoy it more don't get me wrong i get upset when i can't eat something that i once loved! but for me its ok because before i couldn't fit in what i am now i couldn't walk a long period without be exhausted i feel great :)

Great post!!! And lucky you!! I can't wait to get the chance to visit Ireland, Italy, or France!! I am still post-op and suffer every so often with the "maybe i can do it" thoughts. Usually they are brought on by other peoples comments. But I just have to remind myself that apparently I need the help otherwise I would of achieved wl success by now!

Don't know if I read it here or not
But top Drs say your chance to lose 100lbs is 2% !! What!?!
I wish this was an option when I was younger
I'm 54 and look forward to 20 yrs of not being the fat one and feeling incredible
You have your whole long life to feel wonderful with no limits
