I went to see my therapist today and for the first time out loud I told him I didn't know if I have done the right thing by having this surgery.

I am 6 weeks post op and I struggle every day. it hurts to drink. feels like my stomach is blown up with air after 2 swallows and I have to burp. solid foods have been very difficult for me. everything gets stuck in my throat and I feel miserable for 1-2 hours as it tries to pass.

only being able to sip water, I haven't been able to get my 64oz a day in. and only able to eat 3 meals and no snacking I haven't been able to get 60-90 grams of protein either

I lost 22lbs on pre op liquid diet and I have lost 21.7 since surgery as of last weigh in.

I still have gas pains under my collar bone when I lay down at night. and lots of pain from my large incision which has fluid or some kind of knot under it.

I guess what I am saying is its not as easy as people think.

someone please tell me that drinking and eating gets easier without causing pain as I go! I have been struggling for a few weeks but didn't want to post a negative comment on the board. but I know that you veterans have some of the greatest experience so hopefully some of you will reply and give me some motivation.

So sorry to hear about your struggles. I didn't have the severity of the issues you describe. I do remember the first weeks "feeling" the water and food go down. I am 3 months out now. I still burp a lot after eating especially, but also after drinking. I never had the issues with gas pain though. I think a trip to your surgeon might be in order if this is causing you issues with hydration and getting your protein in. Maybe you have a stricture, I don't think you should be this miserable. I had similiar issues after my surgery for the first 8 weeks i could eat more than half an ounce at a time I constantly felt like there was air in my pouch and i had the foamies all the time. It was absolutly horrible. Dr. got me in for a endoscope to check for scarring or oher issues and it turned out to be severe swelling. I was completely distraught, sick, miserable and every other horrible felling you can have! But thankfully after about three month things finally started to improve, I got my strength back and could eat and drink. I know it seems like you made the wrong choice right now but it gets better and once you are all healed up and feeling better you will see you did the right thing. If things don't feel right you should call your surgeon its better to be safe and make sure your not experiencing complications. I hope you start feeling better soon, and just remember why you made this decision. Things will get better!

Im sorry you are going though this. I agree with the others this is not normal...please call your doctor. he is who can help you now.

At six weeks I had to have an endoscopy and had my pouch stretched so I could eat. I struggled with even protein shakes at that point. I still struggle to find food I can tolerate, some days more than others, but I have traded food for a new life so I am good with it. Occasionally I crave something, but it passes quickly when I am doing things I had totally given up hope of ever doing. I am 5 months out, and 110 down. Wrap your head around whatever your new life brings and consider it a trade up. You are freed from the prison food put you in, and now have a second chance at life.

I am 3 weeks POST OP today and I am having almost identical problems. I went for my check up and was in so much pain they sent me to hospital and had ct and labs and fluids found out i have a hematoma. So today that pain goes away but I have a worse pain then before same place as you at the big incision and a knot under there. It feels like a sharp knife or a thousand needles being poked in my stomach. I agree something is NOT right. I will be going in to see my surgeon tomoro. I am glad to see its not all in my head. Please get help as the others have said... hugs to you!! This must be very hard!! Let us know how it goes.... your post op life should NOT be like this 6 weeks out!

So I went to my surgeon due to the horrific pain and knot under my big scar and come to find out it is completely normal! He says some people hurt a little more maybe cant handle the pain as good as others
can. The knot is actually the muscle they had to cut through and sew back up. He also said that will be like that for a couple of months. He has me alternating heat and ice and I feel much better and was able to walk a mile today.:) Hope this helps you!

Please call your doc. I am 8 1/2 months out and have not experienced anything like you describe. I was told that we should never ignore pains or anything out of the ordinary after this surgery.
