Day 8 of the liquid diet and I wasn't prepared for this lack of sensation from chewing. I have started chewing gum every so often but can't do that after surgery. I know there probably isn't anything else I can do about it except look forward to the next stage of food progression after surgery. Just my rambling thoughts today. Kim

Be patient and know that you will chew food again, when it's time.

You will be chewing very soon - and chewing, and chewing, and chewing..........
The liquid diet is almost over and after surgery, I didn't feel like chewing at all. Food wasn't appealing :)

I totally agree with Healthy Diane, it's almost over look forward to the day you have surgery. Things will be much better afterward =)

Hey there! Best of luck on the preop! I start mine next Wed, but I feel almost guilty to say this... I get to have a light dinner the first 5 days, liquid only for the last 2 !

Thanks, Shelley. I know it will be here before I know it. Diane, I forgot about all the chewing I will have to do soon enough. It puts things in perspective. Banshee, you are right and I am soooo looking forward to Monday. Becca, it's interesting how different each surgeon is with their pre-op requirements. We will be very close with our surgery dates. I do think the liquid diet is helping me for post-surgery. I also like to think I'm detoxing from all the carb cravings etc. It also makes me much more mindful. For example, I just went to the grocery store and had to refuse several samples that were being offered. It seemed like there was someone down every aisle. So many people trying to get me to eat. LOL!

When you are post op yu will chew again, in fact you will have to remind yourself to chew very thorughly!
The liquid stages were the hardest parts for me too.

I am on day 3 of liquid.....I am having the same issue. I want to chew something....I had a sugar free Popsicle. I bit it off in chunks...made me feel a little better.

My center doesn't do a liquid preposterous diet either. They do three protien shakes and two meals under 300 calories. The meals have to be at least 15g of protien. I will only have to do only liquids the day before surgery.

Hang in there. After surgery, your jaw will get a real workout when you have to chew everything to mush! :)
