I'm very fortunate to work with someone who also had GBS 3 weeks before me so we've been going down this road together for the last year, it's really helped to have someone I can go sit down with and compare notes or just talk to about anything dealing with the surgery and know they understand..
This morning I ran over to tell her it's my re-birthday (and today is her birthday, coincidentally haha) and compare notes from last year.. and another co-worker was there and commented that our bodies aren't the only thing that has changed. She said the look in our eyes is different, and the way we smile bigger and just LOOK so damned happy all the time.. she's not the first one to tell me this. I've been told that my personality is different, I'm more bubbly. haha. What a nice compliment!
My co-worker also said that watching the two of us over the last year has really changed her opinion of WLS. In the beginning, she was one of the judgemental ones and thought we should do it on our own, but now she's like, after seeing you guys I totally get it, it's NOT easy at all and you guys have busted your ass and deserve it!
It definitely isnt a cure all or the easy way out at all. For the rest of my life I am on a daily vitamin regimen, too much sugar instantly knocks me out cold and occasionally makes me really sick, I dont really eat bread or starches any more, and certain things dont set well in my pouch and have to be purged if you get my meaning. I go to the gym a minimum of 3x a week and do 45-60 mins of cardio and also crunches to tighten my tummy some, and on the days Im not at the gym I go bowling and stuff.. its great to be able to be active!
It isnt a quick fix, its a tool to help you learn a new lifestyle. And I'm loving my new life!
