Usually 10,000 mcg a day. Been taking it since about 3 months preop. I am still losing all my hair! :) But what I have seems to be healthy... just wish there were M U C H more of it! Its so thin on top now my scalp shines thru.... ugggh.... But I take it anyways...

My NUT told us 5,000...but they told me to wait, and that I don't have to start it up yet.

Every office is different, as we see in a lot of the things we talk about on here!! Check with your Dr, that's probably our best bet!!

Boo, I would start taking it now, but that's just me. I take 10,000 also. I started mine pre-op and yes my hair still fell out. It started about 4 months out and has just slowed down now...10 months out. I actually have been using the shampoo for thin hair and a eye shadow type of stuff for your scalp from Sally beauty supply to fill in the bare spots. I have dark hair.I also cut it pretty short which really sucks since it is cold now..haha.

I saw the dr yesterday, and started it today, and started my vitamins today as well, per their instructions.

I take 5000 mcg daily. I started on day 3 postop, which is when the nutritionist told me to start. I am on day 15 postop and haven't started losing hair yet.

Hi everyone, I am new here, joined today. Merry Christmas. Yes I am also having trouble with loosing my hair post gastric bypass. I have started biotin on my own as well as using the shampoo. Does the biotin help. I am thrilled that I am getting thinner but not in my hair! That is my obsession, every hair always in place, now there's not too much to fuss with. Thanks

Did you ask your surgeon or nutritionist?

There is not really evidence (research) that suggests that Biotin stops hair-loss.

The hair falling out is a result of the dramatic decrease in calories as well as the anesthesia from surgery.
