Hello all,

You know how we were told for years that if you cut your calories too low, you'll mess up your metabolism and change your set point?

So, after surgery (I am still preop) I will be eating next to nothing at first, but even after awhile, it will still be like 800 kcal per day... Or so I read all over the place.

Why then does this not mess up our metabolism and set point?

Becca, this confused me too. My surgeon explained that it will force my body to utilize all the "stored" up fat. He said that basically, where they cut into the stomach and make the new pouch it trips like a "reset button" on the metabolism. Being that I am not of a deeply scientific mind, I didn't want him to break it down more than that and show my shortcomings...I just took him at his word. I don't know if this helped at all, but it helped me to wrap my mind around it somewhat.

becca this is why we all have stalls in our weight loss...your noggin thinks you are trying to starve yourself and slows your met. down...start now by taking vitamin B12 sublinguals..it will help keep your energy level more consistant...you ARE going to HAVE to take them after your surgery...and just a reminder to those that read this...if you are not take B12 after your surgery..either under the tongue or with monthly injections(swallowing them does absolutely no good) you WILL pay dearly for it later in life....i know i always harp on this...but trust me you will be glad you did!! :-)

Your body goes into emergency mode thinking you are starving and stops using yout fat stores as fast. I been taught this for years.
We take all these vitamins too to suppliment what we do eat and I take a b-12 shot monthly.
