I can only share what I was told.... No NSAIDS.... Only Tylenol..... I am not a doctor, but do you think you should contact your doctor about stopping your regimen.... And my docs believe that their patients have to take Omneprezanole (sp) or in my case Nexium for 1 year post op... I hope you get the answers you are looking for... Best of luck... take pepcid...wonder if theresa big difference between
that and the nexium. guess ill just call the docs
office. I was just curious to know if anyone else
was in the same boat. But no, they never insisted on
taking an antiacid med! Sure am glad I found this
support group!
I've been feeling ok...more tired than anything.
Also, the left side pain has been the biggest obstacle
with this whole thing! Going back to work monday, cant't
wait!

I would call your dr about stopping your aspirin. I developed an ulcer right after surery and I haven't had any nsaids for a month before surgery. I would talk to your dr about that too. Take care. debby

I took omeprazole for the first two months after surgery. I was told to stop the 81mg aspirin before surgery and do not take it again. My blood pressure is so much lower after surgery so hopefully my body won't need the aspirin.

Thanks guys! It's mind boggling, this whole medicine thing, post-op!
I'm totally off all 4 diabetes meds, thankfully! That was a top reason for
having this surgery! But, I still have a few that I must remain on. Sometimes I don't feel like the docs know EVERYthing about what's acceptable or not for post-op RNY! Maybe I'm reading too much about it, here and there! I'm now paranoid about developing a hernia!!

Unless you have had heart issues or clot issues i wouldn't be taking the aspirin if its something that you have to be on per the doctor they can put you on warfarin which won't be as harmful to you. I have a history of clots and so does several family members along with heart issues but i was able to stop my aspirin regimen. It causes your blood to thin so if you bleed more than you think you should that is why.

Contact your SURGEON about this. Most PCP's don't have a full idea of what can and cannot happen after GBS and most don't know that the labs need to be higher in the range of labs. most say if its in the OK range its good that's not true. all but Calcium need to be in the higher end of the range.

I took omeperzole post operative for 2 months. I was stopped there after.

Keep us posted as to what the doctors say.

Its hard to know which way to turn when the input is coming
from all directions! Also, with media suggesting everyone should
be on 81mg ASA for heart health too....it kinda worries me not
being on it anymore. I have lots of ?'s for my surgeon, that's for
sure! Not only re aspirin, but Boniva as well. From what I read, its
not something I should take post RNY. Is there even an alternative
for that?? wth.... want answers now! Don't see him until late April!

I still take omeperzole. My bariatric doctor says it is optional but I take it anyway. Some things will still make me sick after over 3 months. I'd ask the doctor to make sure about stopping or starting medication. I still take my 81mg asprin with my doctor's ok. I also use Pepcid complete for an occaisional upset stomach.

Hi lisa, the best advice is to check with your surgeon. I was in a buffered aspirin every day because I had severe atrial fib. I had surgery
prior to bypass to correct it. My gastric surgeon okd me to stay in a low dose as long as I take it with milk or yogurt to coat my pouch. I think a lot depends on your age and history. Good luck
