sorry about how your family treated you)0; but they love you just don't understand the changes. Just keep in mind how hard some of the changes are. I'm sure they are just as confused too. But you just past the test of willpower (0: awesome! !
I hope that you and they can put this behind you and go on.

Give them ANOTHER chance NEXT year but GUIDE them through it instead!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ~ HOPE!!!
Next year, as your big day approaches, why not think about what you want to eat, what you want to do, and make out a list. Give it to your family and let them put it together for you, just the way you want it. It will likely take some specific instruction from you because people who haven't had this surgery JUST DON'T GET IT!
But you can teach them. :)
Your family should of known.
I mean, "Come On!"
Did they think you went for a blood test when you went for surgery?
I don't blame you for being upset. I would have been too. It would have been cheaper for them to make sugar fee jello with fruit in it and fat free cool whip than that brownie torte. one thing about or surgery is we are cheap dates now! a box of sugar free jello is 1.25 if not on sale...and fuit 1.00 a can and cool whip 2.00? anyways I understand your frustrations but food is not worth fighting over. maybe they need you to remind them whyyy you cant eat that stuff.....
Sorry for a bad start to your birthday! But I am happy you didnt force yourself to eat it to please your family...you are important and sugar is not worth getting sick over!
That being said, you did the right thing by letting them know...you are not there in that place anymore...pity party over, Hope.
You get to celebrate your birthday a new person, girl that in itself is a party. Go out and get yourself a present, go to a movie or take a bath with candles... you deserve it. Its a new day. Buy something or like Snikahs said, try a new recipe from Shelly's. Gone are the days we sit in a corner and nurse hurt feelings, got too much to live for my dear.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HOPE...MY DEAR DS SISTER . I WISH YOU MANY, MANY MORE.
Happy BIrthday!
You guys are great.
Today I was on my way out to get away, I was going to get my toes and nails done at least but changes my mind and picked around Winners for the better part of the day.
While I was on my way out I was asked "Are you over it yet" Ummmm that was probably the wrong thing to say.
We rehashed it; so I put it this way to my friend, who is a recovering alcoholic.
I said, "have I ever plunked a big case of beer down in front of you on your birthday?" silence "No? and why not, ? because it was bad for you and it would have made you sick".
No one sees us as addicts but thats the way the people around you have to treat it.
Now most of the time I can live and let live, but.... a chocolate cheesecake dripping with caramel sauce and studded with big fugde broownies! On MY birthday! ,,,,I draw the line.
Anyway most of the clan got behind the addict thing expressing concern and asking questions. I hope we have been brought closer by this and that my family understands that even though I don't follow my diet perfectly every day this is not an excuse to get Satan to bake me a cake on my birthday. Thanks again, Hope
I hope your spa day indulgences are just what you want! What a great idea JJ!
p.s. - I find throwing food away very satisfying. The idea used to horrify me. Now it feels sort of empowering.
