Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. I had a lot of odd, silly thoughts before my surgery, and every once-in-a-while they pop up again. Have any of you had any strange thoughts about things you may never be able to do again (that probably would never happen anyway?!!)? These were some of mine:
--Hello!--There goes my chance to be on "Survivor!!" They practically live on rice and have to eat other things that could be questionable to my stomach! I know they are given vitamins, but not sure I could take all I need! Also, they don't get enough fluids. But on the other hand, maybe since I don't need to eat as much I would adapt better?
--Same thing with "Amazing Race." I thought about this last night as they had 12 minutes to eat a huge schnitzel and chocolate cake (yum). Fried food and sugar? I'd be out in 30 seconds! Guess I'll have to find another way to travel around the world :)
--What if I get kidnapped in a foreign country and I don't have my vitamins and all they feed me is rice?
--Ice cream taster! Always sounded like the dream job, but I guess I'll cross that off my list now.
--Competitive food eating! Okay, maybe not something I aspired to, but occasionally I thought I could give Adam Richman a run for his money! Totally out of the picture now...lol

Won't ever open a bakery b/c I don't want to "do that" to other people.
Guess I'll have to figure out "Plan B."
You're post totally made me laugh. May have to follow Patricia and look into Minute to Win It.
The very thought of reality shows where they make you eat stuff makes me want to gag.
Survivor and Greatest race are for loosers. You couldn't pay me enough pre or post to want to run around or starve. I like my comfort!
Tops on my list pre-surgery were:
*hike the Grand Canyon
*horseback ride again (my weight made it difficult for a horse to carry me) -- I did that in Colorado on a trail ride 2 years ago!
*climb stairs without being a out of breath mess
*Not sink a kayak
*Wear high heels again
Since surgery I will never be able to have a blind NG tube but I don't find that to be a significant loss....;)
butterfly--yes, I also have a list of things I couldn't do before surgery, and am so grateful for those changes! This list was mostly tongue-in-cheek from when I was nervous before surgery.
Anyone else have anything goofy to add that we can no longer do? :)
I just find it odd that prior to surgery hefting in my familys groceries was balanced by my weight, Now the load totally pulls me over as I struggle up the stairs and don't concentrate or get help!

I can't order out of Lane Bryant, and all the other plus size catalogs anymore....But thats okay......
I will not be to shop in the plus size department anymore....kinda goes along with the Lane Bryant thing....

Will no longer be invisible to superficial coworkers; which was sometimes a good thing!
What I am looking forward to the most out of everything will be recognizing myself in the mirror again.
Btw, my 5-year old asked me if she could be on Biggest Loser when she's grown up, I told her only as a trainer, dr., or host!!!
