so I had my six month check up yesterday and I have achieved a loss of 38% of my excess weight. That was great. I also had another evaluation of my son done yesterday as well. I left that appointment feeling really down. I just wanted to cry all day. I was told that my son is developmentally and cognitively that of a child of the age of 3-4 instead of the 6 almost 7 he actually is. Then I got told not to expect him to get much better than he is now. I felt horrible that the medical professional has pretty much given up on my child. I cried for everything he wouldn't achieve in his life last night. For all the things he could become and the dreams he has that wouldn't come true.
Then I woke up this morning and watched my six year old son trying to calm my four month old infant down by talking to him. After I got the baby fed and happy once again my six year old son brought me a glass of milk and said "here mommy you need this too". It was in that moment that I decided that it does not matter what the doctors have to say I am this child's mom and he will become the very best person that he can.

Mama's know more than doctors when it comes to your kids. He may not meet some milestone set up as averqge, but if you believe it is possible and you tell him it is possible, than nothing will stop the two of you.

Professionals can give their opinion but we need to remember that it is just an opinion. I have seen children surpass what was expected of them by others and I have seen children who were expected to excell fail. You know your child better than anyone and he will be whatever god has intended him to be. Right now just continue to focus on loving that little boy as much as you can and that will help him more than anything else. Blessings to you and your wonderful family.

You know years ago the "professionals" said that little ones could not do much and so we were not expected to do much more than eat, poop, and babble. Now our little ones use the computer, paint, play sports, dance, do gymnastics and all types of amazing things because we believe they can and give them the ability to try. I know that your child may not be exactly on the level of other children his age, but it sounds like you have a loving, kind, compassionate, and eager to please chile who will continue to grow, learn and succeed in life. Continue to expose him to all the joys in life and expect him to progress in his own way. It sounds like he will one day prove the dr's wrong. Each child is unique and even if the dreams you had for him may change a bit, his dreams will come true and so will yours. They might just take on an unexpected turn, I would rather have 100 kind and loving people in this world than 100 people that can pass a test and treat others like dirt. You are a lovely person and it sounds like your son is as well. Chin up and know you have our support and prayers as you go into each new day. Best of luck and congrats on the weight loss. PS. I am not making light of the seriousness of the situation, but I truly believe your child will succeed!
