Something I have learned on my journey and working so close with a Nutritionist, is that I have a Gluten Sensitivity. And I know that this is called the new "fad" by some and totally poo pooed by others. But when I eliminated gluten products from my diet, I was not near as hungry, I did not have cravings, and my constant belly pain went away. I from time to time will step away and grab something with gluten, and bam, it all comes back again in an instant.

So if you are craving carbs and sugar and just can't seem to beat it, consider the Gluten. It might be worth a try for you.

It's amazing how gluten can affect an entire body. My daughter in law had chronic back pain and chronic UTI's for years and couldn't conceive a child. At age 38 she found out by accident that she was both gluten and lactose intolerant. After ridding them from her diet, the back pain and UTIs went away and a few months later she was pregnant

I have respitory allergies and cannot eat gluten during the summer months because it aggravates my grass allergies. I have it occassionally now and savor every bite becasue I love bread, but in general I feel better without it.

Terri - any wheat products, bread, pasta etc have gluten. There are trace amounts in things like soy sauce too. There are some great gluten free pastas, but most of the breads suck. Glutino brand has just bought Genius brand bread. I've had it in England and it is so much better than anything on the market over here, so hopefully it will be available soon. The down side is that gluten free products are expensive unless you bake your own bread.

Actually it is items with Wheat, Barley or rye. There is numerous breads, pasta and the like that can be purchased that are gluten free now. My husband and kids have had a great time searching out new items that are trade offs for the stuff that is family favorite. Even Dominos has a Gluten free pizza crust now. I have always done well on Atkins type diets, and with the nutritionist input we decided it was not really carbs but the Gluten that was working against me. It is amazing the other symptoms I had that you would not relate to diet in anyway that cleared up for me. Constant lower and upper belly pain, to the extent I had the tube down the throat to check it out, (brain fart moment and I can't think of the medical term) constant bloating and gas and irratable bowel type issues. All went away with a simple change, and I did not have to really change the way I ate, as much as just changing a few ingredients. There are numerous cookbooks and recipes available.

Since I have not had breads, pastas, or rice so many of MS symptoms have been better... No tingling, no numb feet, and no numb fingers...As much as I love those things it is so nice to feel somewhat normal..... My RNY may do much more for me than help me those weight....
