Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
for me i just use common sense. if it's fried, it too fatty. but so are avocados, right, but i don't worry about those.
even before surgery i didn't like the low fat no fat craze. i guess i am the opposite side - i think sugar is the worst food.
so when i shop i always look at sugar first. honestly, i don't think i ever look at fat. funny but my kids know all about protein and sugar (even my 3 yr old runs around asking for sugar free) but they hardly ever say anything about fat.
my cholesterol btw is 143...which I like!
I have found that sugar free doesn't mean taste free...I like MOST of the sugar free stuff in the stores!
I shop the perimeter of the store - veggies, meat etc, dairy.
I still don't eat hardly any carbs, so I mostly don't buy anything in boxes at all. I do buy canned beans and tomatoes, and frozen plain fish.
I feel good about this way of eating because I know exactly what is in my food and it doesn't contain any chemicals.
I look at protein content in most of what I choose, and I eat a lot of chicken (dark meat because it is moister, and a lot of seafood)... People get concerned about shellfish, but I eat it daily and my cholesterol is at 160... And that was without fasting... So I am off all cholesterol meds....
I don't know if this helps... I don't focus on fat free, and I do look for sugar free... I love truvia... It is a great natural sweetener and you would never know you aren't using real sugar...
Good luck... I promise it gets easier.. The first two months I was totally confused...
