I'm taking my grandpa out to eat. He doesnt know i had surgery and im not tellng him! He would have a major fit. But the thing is he only goes to buffets. this is my first time eating out and i hope i dont get sick. Ill definitly be sticking to meat and maybe fruit. Im a year out from surgery and can eat most things but im worried about oil and sugar hiding in fast food so i only eat what i cook. Wish me luck!

Is this seriously the first time you have gone out to eat in over a year? That is amazing...you must not have kids!! You will be fine...buffets will give you a lot of options. You are right...stick with protein that you are comfortable with and maybe some fruit or a roll. You could also have a taste of mashed potatoes or other foods you are comfortable with. I am proud of you for going. Update us when you get home!!

I have anxiety about eating out too. I am only 5 months out, and just went out on date night with hubby a couple of weeks ago. It went better than I expected, and I am one that can't eat much of anything. With a buffet you will be fine. Lots of choices for you. Explaining to gpa why you only eat a few bites might be the tough part. Lol. Is it just a one on one meal or group?

Well my dinner went very well I put alil extra on my plate so I wouldn't have to come up with a reason for not eating much and I ate a tiny salad I measured with one of those med cups from the hospital So one med cup of salad a slice of peach and a slice if pear. About an ounce of chicken and a once of roast beef. I was very sneakie he wanted ne to get dessert with him so i got it and mushed it all around made him think i ate luckily my honey was distarting him so it all worked out. I wish i could explain the surgery to him but he has always been dead set against even before i started looking into it. And he is not one to change his mind so being sneaky is easier. And who knows maybe now that i have eaten out and not gotten sick i will go again! But not alot :)

My first time dining out, I ordered an appetizer only and took 3/4 of it home with me. :)

I worry about family members noticing that I eat different. I have only told my sisters and of course my hubby.

so happy it went well for you.....and as you change who knows maybe he will and maybe some day you will be able to open up to him. Or as you melt down he may at least accept the new you without knowing and be happy you are healthy. The best part is you enjoyed your time its all we have with our loved ones and that is not even a guaranteed thing. :)
