First day of the rest of my life

had gastric bypass yesterday am. Surgery went very well. 


already home from hospital. Only minimal pain, easily contoled by liquid loratab.


hospital staff was wonderful and so far all good 


i am so glad I had the support and ability to do this

Wow, you went home quickly. Don't be surprised to be more tired on some days than others. It is easy to overdo it during the first week. The third day after surgery was probably the worst for me. I was still in the hospital and the day-nurse was only giving me half the pain meds I'd been prescribed. And the darn gas from the surgery lodged under my shoulder-blade and was excruciating. Be good to yourself!!

Congratulations! I had surgery on the 6th, and like you, was home the next day by 2pm. Be patient with yourself. I overdid it a couple of days with too much walking in my neighborhood all at once and it hit me on Day 4. I now am taking that same walk and just breaking it down into 2 walks, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Today, Day 8, I'm feeling almost normal and am planning on going back to work on Monday. Like imjj4short says, be kind to yourself and really listen to your body. And keep reading these posts! It's helping me tremendously.

It takes a good 4-6 weeks to heal fully, so listen to your body. Some days will be better energy wise than others and when your body says rest, then please rest. This is not the time to go into the mentality of pushing through. That kind of mentality could be dangerous if you don't allow you body to fully heal. Rest, sip, walk, repeat.

Still feeling good. off all pain meds and had a bowel movement which was great

This is my first post! I am still in the 6 month stage and I am very excited. I am going to a seminar at the hospital tomorrow to learn about protein powders, shakes, and food.
