Well I had my surgery on the 31st, when I woke up following the surgery in the Recovery Room, I was really really in pain, they were giving my IV Dilaudid, which is one of the strongest drugs and couldnt get it under control, my pain just kept on when I got to the room, I did my walk in the hall that first nite, got my catheter out and tried to drink but was so nauseated, The nite nurse told me to get up and walk, that it would make things better, I kept telling her I felt so light headed and that my heart felt like it was pounding out of my chest, I think she thought I was a middle aged woman with a psych problem, well I showed her, the next day I thought I had to go to poop, and started hemorrhaging bright red blood so they think was from one of the anastamosis sites, I almost felt vindicated because everybody kept telling me I would just feel better if I would just get out in that hall way and walk!!! anyway, after two transfusions my hemoglobin is up to about half of what I had when I went into have the surgery but I sure do feel better, still in a lot of discomfort the old blood that is still in my gut is an irritant and has a strong laxative effect, anyway its not real pleasant, but the doc think s all is going to be well said that this problem only occurs in 1 or 2 percent of patients, I was the lucky one!! This note is a real rambler, anyway, I just want to tell everybody,, thanks for all of their concerns and kind wishes for recovery, that I have been reading since I got home tonite!! YOU GUYS ROCK!! I had an almost identical experience! No joke. The first day of surgery was quite painful but I managed. I was up walking around and thought I was doing ok. The morning of pod 2 I got up cuz I thought j had to poop and started hemorrhaging. I was put in the ICU and given a bunch of fluids and tests. I ended up receiving 2 units of blood as well and my hemoglobin was still only 9.8 when I was discharged. I continue to bleed out the remaining blood in my gut and I can't stop farting!! They stink like blood so bad. Sorry anyone if that is too much info! We were the lucky 1-2% who had this complication. Very scary experience!
