Have any of you had the duodenal switch? I have researched all 4 different surgeries. My surgery is April 20th (if they can work me in). My Dr. wants to bring in another surgeon to watch the surgery, but I feel like it is kind of creepy. I have a CPAP machine and I read another post that it made him sick. I also have prescriptions that I have to take within 2 days. I am trying to work out having them split up to four times a day. Any suggestions for me would be good.

Most folks here have had the RNY bypass surgery, some have had the sleeve, a few the lap band. My surgeon told me that the duodenal switch isn't done much any more....which is probably why you don't find many people here to talk about it.

Is that the kind of surgery you are having?

I'm not sure I understand what you are asking about your medications.... maybe you could re-phrase the question... it might trigger more responses.

There aren't many people I have heard that had that...I know of only one post and that was a month and a half ago and don't remember who it was. Sorry. I take many medications but I only tak a few at atime.

I'm not really sure what you are asking, but as for another dr being in the room to watch, this is fairly common. My RNY surgery was actually taped as part of my surgeon's training program. You'll be out cold and to be honest I felt a sense of relief because I knew my Dr was going to do the best surgery he'd performed in his life! LOL

LOL @ Jen...good point! I think a poster by the name of plantcrone had the same kind of surgery you are talking about and she is like 9 years out or something like that, might try looking her up for some info. Hang around tho, cause lots of good info here :)

There are a few people around who have had DS surgery. Hopefully they will respond. I think Paprika2 also had DS.

I had the DS almost 7 years ago.

It's not done as much as the others because it's technically demanding, takes longer & demands the patient commit to a lot of vitamins/minerals, etc. Who is your surgeon? Has he/she done a lot of them?

However, it does have some great benefits.

I'm planning on having the DS this summer. There is a lot of great info at obesityhelp.com, and dsfacts as someone else posted. I find that DS veterans are always willing to share their story. Good luck, let me know if I can help. DES
