Everything in my life lately had been going great. Yesterday my son, who I am very close to and my biggest fan, told me he is moving from Texas to Iowa. It is so far away. He lives now about 90 miles and we can see him at least once a month. Now he will be 950 miles away. He and I have been on this weight loss journey together, He had surgery 3 weeks before I did and was my inspiration to have the surgery. I am just so bummed about him moving. it is a good job offer but I also worry about him changing jobs in this economy. I guess I am selfish too for not wanting him to be so far away. He lived out of state once before and it nearly killed me. Thanks for the shoulder to cry on, if I say anything to my family they think I am not supportive of him.

I know what you mean...it was so hard to let my daughter go and I'll soon be facing the same with my son. My daughter kept me going through some very rough times and my son always kept my feet on the ground. There are days when I miss the old times....but I do know that they each need to find their own way with their lives. It's just so heartbreaking when your children have been your life for long. But you will adjust...hopefully in time you two can find a way to keep that closeness going strong. I know you will be lost for a while...I'm here for you if you need to talk. God knows you have been here for me many many times over! Shelia

I understand! My only daughter left for India 2 months ago. I cried for weeks. Now we Facetime every other day on our iphones. It helps but it will never replace putting my arms around her. I used to miss her when she was only 300 miles away.... that would be heaven now.

I read this yesterday and felt your pain, I couldn't respond. To all of you who have children so far away, I Am Sorry, I can't even begin to think of what that would be like. My only child will be 21 next month and it makes me sick. Someday she will have her life, won't be here, etc, I choose to ingore that and pretend it will never happen. However, Skype, facetime if you have I phones, Talking everyday, multiple times, scheduled trips as often as allowed, So sorry, Sooo Sorry!!

Awww I'm so sorry for you. I have 5 kids and my oldest boy lives across the country from me. It's so hard. We talk 3-5 times a week and that really helps but I would sure love to give him a hug.

I am sorry for your hurt. You are a good mother to realize this is a good move for your son. I, too, have a daughter moving out of state. She is only 19 and I'm not ready to let her go -- but as mothers -- we are always strong for our children. I'm sure he knows that you will always be there for him -- no matter how far away your are physically. (((Hugs))

Phones, e-mail, Skype, twitter....all ways that the two of your can be in touch even when he isn't in "huggin'" distance.

I sense a little fear in your anguish, and I just want to say that you have the internal strength to continue this journey without a crutch. When you are unable to reach your son, visit us here. We're here for you anytime. You are stronger than you know.

Mothers think of their children as their babies, no matter how old they are. It is perfectly natural for you to feel that way. You both have shared a unique life-altering experience with WLS~yet another bond between you. Give yourself time. This kind of thing doesn't have a quick fix, but you will get through it.

That is so difficult. I am so sorry, but at least you can still visit. I know it is hard. Hang in there. Maybe Texas is a nice place for you to live as well. I have a young child, but I am sure I will want to move where there go. I guess it is not always possible. Take care and hugs your way!!
