I have to chose between RNY and sleeve....

Why did you chose one over the other?

I choose the sleeve, I didn't want the malabsorbtion or dumping.

RNY no complications. I hit goal at 10 months and past by 25 lbs by my 1 year. I was more than 100 overweight so I needed something more effective. I wanted to keep my stomach, not cut it out. I wanted to dump if I made stupid choices. I was READY for change. I researched for over 8 years and knew this was NOT just about food and mostly about me. Do your research and in the meantime work on you!

when i had mine the sleeve was not availible...i chose RNY over the band because the band can be cheated by the patient..and being male i figger i would do just that...NO REGRETS

I read all of it becca thanks and although malabsorption and dumping do occur with the bypass i am leaning more towards it just not 100 percent sure that the sleeve isn't right for me. I will be talking with the surgeon soon the good news is i can change my mind right up until the day before. But i started this journey wanting the sleeve so we will see.

Hi Becca, I chose the GBS because I wanted something proven to work. Lack of long term stats on the sleeve. AND, I wanted the potential "dumping" so I would resist the urge to have sugar. I am a closet sweet fiend. M&M's everytime I pump gas, go to the grocery, or basically leave the house! I need a tool to help me stop eating sugar. With the sleeve, you are only restricted. I know myself well enough to know that I would eat my way back to 300 pounds eventually. No guarantee with GBS, but more data to convince me that I will be successful with it.

I thought about the lap band until I went to a seminar and it was explained to me that the lap band wasn't very effective. I read about the sleeve but chose the RNY because of the double effect of the tiny pouch for a stomach and the shortened intestine for less absorbtion.
Also In an emergency situation the RNY can be reversed and I beleive I read that the sleeve cannot. Also the RNY is far more time tested and considered a very safe operation. Please excuse my typing and spelling! Can't do either tonight.
I had posted this on another question just like it, I am sold on the RNY. LOL! Think I could peddle them door to door!
