Deciding factors on type of surgery

So... at the info session last night we talked about the different types of surgery (of course)...

I have been thinking all along on the RNY, but after hearing about the sleeve, my hubby says I should really strongly consider it because then I don't have to worry about the vitamin thing so much.

Can you tell me why you made the choice you did?
Are there specific things I should consider in making my decision?

Hi, Im new to. I was told by my Dr. that if you have any stomach adis problems at all....thats the biggest complaint. asid reflux. Not for me......... be aware not "beware" wink wink

I chose RNY because of it's long term result, and it's studies on helping resolve diabetic issues. I was on insulin prior to surgery and within 48 hours of the surgery I no longer needed any diabetic medication. My blood sugars are now in the 90's (under 110 is normal). I'm so happy with my decision, and would do it allover again if I had to.
My recommendation to you is to do as much research about the different procedures offered and make the best decision for you.

I was like you . I was very undecided. I went to my first appt. to see the Doctor who was going to be there with me through every step and he explained every detail to me on all the diffrent ones we togather made the descion on the RNY cause of all the health issues I allready had and the ones that ran in my famly. I had my surgery on the third. so far so good. It has been rough more than ussual on me cause I lost a loved one a few days ago and I over did it going to my family when I should of just stayed home. But I just could not bear to do that but I am alot better today. You will make the right choice just talk to the Doctor he will help you make the right choice. Good Luck Missy

I chose RNY because my doctor told me that lapband patients average 30-40% of their excess weight lost, sleeve patients are 50-60% of their excess weight lost, and RNY are 70-80% of their excess weight lost. I wanted the most helpful tool if I was spending $20,000 and having major surgery.
