Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
Hopefully, no one here gets upset at you for telling your story. You are right, your experience isn't what happens to most people - but it is still your story. My hope is that you find nothing but support here (and maybe even find some things that improve your ongoing digestive issues).
I understand your natural desire to use food to feel normal. When we are miserable, food can feel like a comfort. And, when people are suffering from debilitating physical issues, eating can become the only joy they experience in a given day.
What you wrote yesterday makes me wonder if the food you are eating may be contributing to your digestive issues. "Dumping" (which happens to some of us when we eat something too high in carbs or fat) can also involve explosive diarrhea. On the other hand, a diet high in dense protein (like chicken, shredded beef, tuna, etc) is usually correlated with constipation. I know you said that eating protein doesn't make a difference - but is that just adding protein, or sticking almost exclusively to protein? You've probably already done an elimination diet to see if specific foods (like dairy or carbs) are triggering your "crappy" issues... but if you haven't - you could try going back to a diet that is primarily dense protein, eliminating all white foods (bread, rice, pasta, sugar, etc) for a couple weeks. Personally, I dump on high carb stuff that most people think of as healthy, like yogurt and fruit.
I know you've resigned yourself to having explosive diarrhea for the rest of your life and aren't necessarily asking for "cures" - so please feel free to ignore me... I'm an eternal optimist and believe you deserve better!! I'm still hoping that someone here can offer you something that improves your current condition.
Much respect for your continuing to hang in there!!
