Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
The closest thing I've experienced to your problem was having horrible diarrhea the started about a week after I had my gallbladder out (about 3 years after my GBS). My doctor said I'd eventually "get over it," but I couldn't even make it through a Zumba class without horrible intestinal cramping (and spending at least 1/4 of the class in the bathroom) and I wasn't willing to "wait it out." I did some research and learned about "bile salt diarrhea." And, I did find a "cure!!!" Because people don't absorb calcium carbonate (Tums) efficiently, taking a couple Tums with each meal can slow food in the intestinal tract enough to stop the diarrhea. It TOTALLy worked for me!! (I still take 6 calcium citrate every day because of the GBS). I felt relief the first time I took the Tums. Then, for a few months, I still took Tums every time I ate something outside my regular diet. Thankfully, I haven't struggled diarrhea for a few years.
I encourage you to try taking 2 Tums every time you eat. I hope it works for you!
