Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
My doc also recommends taklng Colace - a mild stool softener.
Hope this helps.
TY!!!
I was admitted tot he hospital in September after having this issue so bad that I vomiting just trying to strain the poop and eventually just from drinking water. Xrays and CT scan showed that I had impacted bowels up so high into my intestines the the enemas and suppositories at home couldn't help. The straining forced a small hernia that then wrapped my bowels around it.
So the hospital gave me an "old school" milk and molasses enema. The mixture apparently grabs everything stuck inside you and forces it out... VIOLENTLY! But it worked! I had surgery 6 days later and the hernia had already receded and released the bowel.
Every day since the blessed event, I have mixed miralax in my morning coffee and taken a colace stool softener with each dose of calcium. I go every single day (I track it on an app on my phone called "poop diary" - I sh*t you not!) and it's never super hard. BM's are effortless and productive and sometimes several times a day.
Be your own advocate... don't let the dr's tell you to "try this or that" for as many months as I did. I could have seriously saved myself the hernia surgery if I'd demanded xrays months before.
I do a stool softener. no fiber supliments because they made me worse years ago my doc said fiber takes fluid out of your intestines thats what that was about. current doc has me on colace 3x a day told me to drink hot hot coffee in the am and excercise and drink water not juice or anything else water it does matter.
I also find vitimins constipating but ya gotta do what you gotta do sometimesll then I go to laxitives if all that dosent work
I guess there is prune extract in it and senna. Check with your health care provider to make sure it is ok for you. I had a sleeve-type surgery, so I haven't had any re-arrangement of my intestines.
Here it is on Amazon:

Something we all forget, before surgery, we were eating a lot of food and a lot of waste was coming out.
Now we aren't taking in as much and there's very little to come out, so sometimes it feels like we're constipated just because we haven't gone in a day or two
Another thing, I've found is Citrucel rather than a 'bulk forming laxative' (generic version at Walmart is cheap) and making sure to drink a bottlfe of water with each capsule. Start off with 1 a day, then go to 2 a day until you find your dose.
