I am back home after having surgery for a small bowel obstruction. I just celebrated my one year surgiversary on the 15th. On Thursday I went into the ED with severe upper abdominal pain. The CT showed the obstruction caused by herniated bowel, so I was scheduled for surgery the next day. All went well and the surgeon closed a couple "holes" in my peritoneum and cleaned out some adhesions. I thought once I passed the year milestone all would be clear. Anyone else have this happen to them? The surgeon said all should be good now and there will always be a risk this can happen again but smaller risk this time. This surgery was a piece of cake compared to GBS surgery obviously, but I was still surprised I was allowed to go home the evening of surgery. My doctor also said I could go back to my regular diet, that made me nervous so I have stuck to soups, pudding, yogurt etc. This was a crappy thing to happen, but I still don't regret having the gastric bypass.
