Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
Right now, the most important thing is protein...not calories. Your body will burn your fat to get enough energy/fuel if you don't feed it enough carbs. However, if you don't give it enough protein, it will eat your muscles. Most programs have us take 2 multi-vitamins a day so you are getting your vitamins. The fruit is just adding unnecessary carbs. I've seen a lot of people stall out from eating too much "healthy" fruit. Unless you are able to hit 70 grams of protein a day, I wouldn't recommend adding other foods to your diet.
As soon as you get permission from your surgeon, you want to fill your pouch with dense protein to keep you feeling satisfied. It is easy to drink "around the pouch..." get too many calories through drinking.
Eventually, you will be able to have whatever you want (in small quantities). Right now it is best to stick to high protein foods.
