I am almost 5 months post op and want to know would it be ok for me to have a beer at a party I'm going to later? Anyone try beer around this stage post op

well i drink beer now almost everyday
BUT...right now...for you...if you havent had any beer...IT HITS YOU VERY HARD AND FAST!!
so be very careful and dont drive whatever you do...

Beer isn't a good plan. First, it is carbonated (and we're not supposed to have carbonation)...second, it has loads of carbs....third, alcohol hits us very hard after GBS...Fourth, alcoholism is a major transfer addiction.

Be careful with alcohol, it's high in calories, as JJ stated, we are not suppose to have carbonated drinks and you have to be careful about transfer addictions.

I know the rules... But my nut told me a beer was OK... I have had a beer a couple of times.... I don't drink it out of the bottle, I pour it into a glass... And Mich Ultra works for me... Low carbs, and only 95 calories...

I think it is a personal choice... Many people give up alcohol all together... And that is awesome.... But I do enjoy having a drink with my husband on occasion and my nut OK'd it....

BTW... I am 11 weeks out... And I had a beer several weeks ago for the first time...

The beer will hit you harder than it use to...so give it a try, don't over do it. Drink slow. Best of luck. debby

I am five months out and cannot drink beer. A friend bought me a draft last week...I literally had two sips and felt like I was going to die...very severe pain. Btw, my pouch tolerates almost anything! I was shocked to read that some of us drink beer.

Am now 4 months post op and have not tried beer. I have tried diet Pepsi. It takes me 3 days to drink 1 bottle! Hardly worth it. I hear alchol will hit very hard now. Had a small glass of wine once with my sis. It effected me a little. I was surprised becasue before I never felt a thing from any amount of wine. Looked at a bottle of Southern Comfort this monring and put it back on the shelf. I Don't need that stuff anymore.

I haven't tried beer but will tell you 1 and a half years after surgery any alcohol I drink makes me very tipsy very fast.. I mean one glass of wine and I have had it..lol..just take it easy
