I am happy that I had this surgery but one thing I was not prepared for was the emotional wreck that hit me during my 2nd week of post op. I prepared for my proteins, vitamins, and liquids but I did not realize or prepare for feeling of craziness.

I thought I had done adequate research. I already suffer from depression and have always felt inadequate in my personal endeavors....be prepared! Talk to your doctor and your support system.

I have my post-op appointment with my doctor on Tuesday and this topic will be the key point in the visit.

What I have found is that you should not quit taking your "happy" pills after surgery. Exercise is a great way to keep everything on the up and up. Finally, pre-warn those you love most. They will bear the brunt of your insanity. Be aware that this is going on and have a plan of attack so that you do not continue to suffer.

So sorry Mia for having to go through this. I have not had this issue so can't comment. I just wanted to let you know I support you and hope you can get through this quickly so you can move on to a better you!

I sent you a message Mia. I took MONTHS to wean myself off the meds in all of my preop prep work. After 16 years of anti depressants I learned that if I stopped taking the meds I would crash big time within about a 4 weeks period to the point I could stand to live with myself not to mention what others must have thought. Go back to the beginning and spend some time in weaning yourself.

Hi Mia - I felt the same way only mine started the day after surgery. I was so emotional and weepy that I thought my world had ended. However now at week 6 I am doing so much better. I am blaming that my body didnt understand what the heck had happened - where was it's diet cherry pepsi, sugar and carbos. Now I just have the blah feeling sometime as I struggle to take my anti depressant. I am on Cymbalta which is a capsule that I need to open up. Nothing I put it in works well! Let us know what your doctor says!

Thanks everyone! Healthy Diane I take Paxil and I am hoping that I can come off of it one day but come Tuesday I will be leaving with a RX one way or another....lol

I will let y'all know they outcome....but it will be late...my granny turns 92 on Tuesday and we are having a cook out at the lake for her.

Hi there! I have been on 20 mg of Prozac for anxiety for about 7 years now. I have tried to come off due to pregnancies but was never able to because my body depended in the drug after so many years that I was an emotional wreck! I never even thought about stopping after surgery; however, after talking to the Bariatrics psychiatrist ( one of the many requirements before getting the green light to do surgery ), and she said they let one stop these type if prescriptions six weeks after surgery to give the body time to regulate and produce the drugs themselves (serotonin). This was exciting news but scary too because I have never been able to do it before! I suppose by losing so much weight your body starts producing these things again on their own????? This makes little sense to me because skinny people are on anti depressants as well as they also have the deficiencies so what if we still have the deficiencies???? I don't know... I am still doing the required steps before approval for surgery per kaiser, but thank you very very much for bringing up this topic!!! I look forward to hearing what your doctor says and will be extra cautious and ready for emotional craziness in the beginning as I am kinda extra sensitive and emotional anyhow!!! Lol!!! Thank you again for sharing!!!
