Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
My advice to you is to lose the weight before you start to have medical and physical problems. However, as much as I have gained from gastric bypass I believe in order for it to be successful you have to have the right attitude and be as desperate as I was to lose the weight to follow the rules your doctor and dietician advise. It is not easy but it is a real help.

We're All Human
Not one of us is perfect, its plain to see,
Although we all would like to be.
We make mistakes and even sin,
And then when caught, our actions defend.
We see others do the same as we look about;
Were all so human, without a doubt.
So, may we never think of ourselves better than a brother;
For were all on the same level with one another...
In need of Gods touch from above,
Filling our hearts with his great love.
Whenever we see someone stumble and fall,
Let us never come down on them at all,
But point them to the Saviour who meets our need,
Ready and willing our soul to feed.
Lord, youre the only one whos perfect or ever will be,
And its through your power that were set free.
So, help us to be kind and not criticize,
But always see others through your eyes,
As we look beyond their weakness and sin,
To what they can be with your Spirit within.
Thank you, Lord, that we who are human can be made whole -
As you reach out in mercy and save our soul.
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God"
(Rom. 3:23)

Good Luck
Good luck.

Thoroughly research it, talk to and ask questions of people who have had it done. If you are talking to people who have not had it done, most likely their advice is wrong.

I'm 34 years old. Surgery on Oct 15, 2008
Starting weight 341
Current weight 246
Total loss 95 lbs in less than 5 months.
I have always been a big girl.
Feel better than I have in years.
A ways to go yet but it gets better every day.
As for being sick all the time.. I haven't felt nauseated since my second week, (never really felt sick) it has improved a lot in just the last week. I have so much more energy and I have so many of these "wow" moments that I can't even list them all.. hehe.
The main things as others have stated is you HAVE to follow the program. It is so important to not drink a half hour before or after meals and to only eat the small amount allowed. It is also important to get in lots of water and vitamins and to make sure you are taking getting protein at regular intervals. Also a biggie is to have the protein spread out through out the day.. don't have it all at once.. your body doesn't absorb that much at a time.. and if you don't spread it out it does no good.
After reading through this post I have to agree with "Wendella" about not enjoying food any longer. I eat 3 tablespoons of food at each meal (I am never hungry yet at this point and have no appetite). that's hardly enough to really enjoy.. but I think in time that will improve as well. Be sure that you do all of your homework before doing anything. Talk to people and research everything you can on-line.. it helps a lot and get all of your questions answered. Good Luck!!
I do have a new favorite thing ever.. and its the SF iced vanilla latte from McDonald's.. thanks Michelle (Eggface) for passing that on.. It is nice to be able to go through a drive through and get something that I can actually have and to be able to finish the whole thing.. haha.
I almost did.
Regrets not sure yet. To soon. I feel its been a nightmare. surgeon cut into my spleen by mistake. I almost bleed to death. critical condion for 6 days. 56 days with no food.
3 absceses. hospitalized again or 29 days. I have lost 70 lbs in 2 months. Yet, this past week I see I am improving. I am getting stronger. And on the mend. I wasnt that big at first 277. and no health problems so I was denied for 2 yrs. my problem was my scale #. I seeing it will all be worth it.
You cant do alone, dietian, Drs, support. and now I am so happy to have found this online support group.
