Well I have been here on the forum for a while now and I really want to share my story so others can get to know me. I have read so many posts and learned so much. I want to say thank you for letting me read and share with you!
About 5 years ago I had an extended family member have GBS. I have to admit I never thought I would even consider it. I was influenced by other members of my family that that was an easy way out and I could do it on my own. Well we all know that was just not true.
Last January I saw a comercial for weightloss surgery seminars in my area. I finally got the nerve up to go to one in May. I was almost destroyed when they said it would take 6 months of supervised diet and weightloss classes. I thought oh well its never gonna happen.
Well my hubby contacted his insurance (Atena) and they set me up with a healthy lifestyle coach via "Healthy Roads" that would contact me by phone 2 times a month to help me with diet and exercise. No doctor visits, no dreaded scales, no negitivity at all, just support. Well the 6 months flew by and at the end of November I was done.
Hubby called the insurance peeps again and they said the next step was find a surgeon. I wanted to go to the people that held the seminar I went to in May but they were not covered by our insurance. After many calls we finally found a team covered by our insurance. Well they said I had to go to their seminar (huge sigh, then I freaked out for fear I would have to do another 6 months, called the insurance peeps again and they said nope I was done, the 6 months would count) well we went on Jan. 6th and I have a appointment with the surgeon nutritionist, and psychologist on Jan. 20th! They said it would take about 2 and a half to three hours to get started.
I know I have a long journey ahead of me but I am excited to be on this life changing adventure! I hope to make many friends here :o)

I am also waiting for surgery...well done on making the decision .I hope you do not have to wait too long..

I have to complete 6 months of physician supervised diet also and I only have 3 months left. I have completed all of the pre-surgery requirements. I wish I could do my 6 months by phone. I meet with my primary physician and dietitian every month. I was dreading doing this for 6 months but its going by fast. I should be finished in March and hopefully have a surgery date in April. My birthday gift to me!

I understand the being scared--I was very nervous! Mostly because it doesn't seem like there's any one way things will be. Some people have complications, some don't; some have lots of pain, others don't; some can tolerate all foods, others not at all, etc! So I had to have an open mind and know all of the "maybes" that could be a part of this.
I'm glad to say that (so far, at 7+ weeks) I've had the best possible outcome with absolutely no problems or issues!
