I am so afraid that this cold is going to ruin my surgery. I am at the coughing stage and my chest hurts. OMG if the phelm would just come up I would be alright. I am literally in tears. I came to work today with the intention of cleaning off my desk and I've been out of sorts all day today in panic mode because i can't get getting this cold off of me out of my mind. God please help me. The weather has changed again and I'm literally scared to go outside because the winds are torturous. I only have 7 days any suggestions on what to do short of drinking hot toddies right now because i can't have alcohol this close to surgery.

I started getting a cough right before my surgery and I was so worried also. I could feel it in my chest so bad but it just wouldn't turn into a cough.
The day before surgery when they called with the time to be there, I told her I had a small cough and asked of it would be a problem. She asked of I had a fever at all and I told her no (because I never did) and she said that it was fine!
Even informed the nurses and Anesthesiologist and they could care less.
I know your worry though....I felt it too, girl! Its going to be ok!
Maybe take some emergenC! Good luck :)

They say a cold lasts 7 days if you treat it and a week if you don't. You'll be fine!

Try an old fashioned steam... But I agree with Stacy... No fever, means no worry.... And try and stop stressing my friend.... The more you stress, the harder it is for your body to mend itself...
You are going to be fine.... This is going to happen.... BELIEVE!!!!!!!

I had a cold when i went in for my surgery, they said as long as i didnt have a fever it would be fine. Keep in mind if ur coughing really bad, ur abdomin is going to hurt after surgery. Even with splinting with pillow it was still torture.

Thanks everyone I am working really hard to get rid of it but the cough keeps me up at night so i'm sleep deprived right now as well and so far no fever like i had with the flu. I just took two tablespoons of pure honey mixed with lemon lmbo. I brought the echinacea vitamin supplement only to learn after i got it home that you have to stop it 2 weeks prior to surgery lmaooooooooooooo only me!!!! I think i will be okay if i could just get some rest. I am trusting God just freaked out a little, sorry

I'm a very firm believer in mind over matter, and I simply refuse to get sick.

I'm a hospital nurse and if I could avoid a flu bug working in a hospital all winter my theory must hold water.

So toughen up. Be stronger than that cough. Ain't no stinkin' cough gonna keep YOU from having surgery next Tuesday. No way!!

Believe in your power to heal yourself.

And stop worrying about the surgery. That's how you got this cold in the first place.

Vicks in your nostrils, get a vaporizer from Wallgreens and run it in your bedroom each and every night as you sleep. If you can put the liquid vicks in the vaporizer recepticle that will help also. Keep your bedroom door closed. Get at least 7-8 hours of sleep a night and drink a minimum of 2 litres of water each and every day before surgery.

I have gotten this advice from an ear nose and throat doctor many years ago and it has kept me off of antibiotics for nearly 14 years.

Try the really old remedy of a good laxative or cleaning out - I get the Fletchers Castoria for children that taste just like root beer and clean out my system. Flushes away that built up bacteria. I also rub down in Vicks on my chest at night to help loosen that phlegm up to get it out.

try some zycam...it might shorten it up a bit for the duration...if the phlegm wont come up, hit the max strangth mucinex hard...that stuff is the bomb...

remember, the enemy is trying EVERYTHING in his "already been there done that" playbook to get you to back out...take authority over that booger and cast his sorry butt out and back where he belongs...anoint yourself with some oil and let the praise music sound! God loves His children and hates to see us sick, sometimes we just have to step up and slay the ugly one instead of waiting :)
