Ok so I am thinking about moving into stage 3 and got to thinking. I do not have any trouble drinking....I started out sipping but as I have gotten used to just drinking normally. I do not gulp but I do not feel like I am sipping...

My ? is this, should it make me feel bad or is this normal? Do we determine how much is too little or too much? I think I can tell when to stop drinking because I have a little burp.

I asked the same question at my six month appointment. I was told that sipping is important at first because drinking large amounts at a time can cause pain. But if you can drink fluids comfortably - go for it. I have been able to drink fairly normally since two months out and I credit that with why I have had no constipation issues ever.

My NUT said that in time, and it varies for everyone, I should be able to drink 'normal' again... :)

I drink normally at 3 months out but you will know when to stop or just purpose it not to drink too much either way - pay attention to your body and thank you because i was afraid i was the only one drinking normally already and I too felt as though I was doing something wrong. It's good to know that it levels out.

I am a by-passer....I am hoping and praying that the next stage is just as easy. I am a rule follower so I will eat only what is on my paper plan. I keep thinking that if I follow the rules I will not have any pain...

Nope - I'm an RNY. My surgeons office said that I can drink normally if I can tolerate it - won't damage my pouch.

I'm drinking somewhat normally, I don't gulp but I can tolerate larger swallows. Makes it easier to take my pills too. I don't have any pain so I'm pretty sure I'm doing right. Now I'm 4 weeks out. I can hardly believe it's been a month already!!!

Mia, I didn't have much trouble drinking, either. You can't drink too much water as long as you aren't drinking with meals or 30 min before/after.

I am a rule follower, too and thought I would slide through this thing without throwing up or getting the foamies. I was wrong!!! My pouch didn't like some foods that were on my "approved" list. I threw up on fish every time I tried it. The good news is that I didn't really like fish very much anyway! Oh, and throwing up after GBS isn't as bad as it was pre-GBS. Trust me; when you feel the brick feeling in the middle of your chest and get lots of thick saliva it is much better to throw up ASAP than to be in misery for an hour or more.

imjj I so agree with you on the pre and post surgery throwing up and when I get blocked I try to get rid of it right away and I hate throwing up but it is much worse before surgery to do so.

I am an RNY but @ 7 months I can drink normally, just have to stop when my pouch is full. Where I used to chug a whole 20 ounce bottle of water now it is more like I drink a little slower and drink maybe 1/4 of a bottle and am full.
I usually keep a few bottles of water in my bait box with ice on them.
