First, I completely disagree that farina, oatmeal, milk, and cereal are good choices during the weight-loss phase. Our pouches are so small that it is difficult to get in enough protein during the shrinking phase and protein intake is necessary to preserve our muscles. Carbs during this phase simply slow the fat burning process.
Yes, when I was trying to stop losing weight, I ate high-protein oatmeal. If you're maintaining at 5 years out, you can work a small bowl of Kashi go lean into your diet. Personally, I made the decision not to eat certain things ever again because I found it easier to make the decision once and be done with it, rather than being faced with making decisions when I'm having a bad day and rationalize why it's okay to eat crap.
Regarding the issue of liquids with meals - - I think you are correct in recognizing that soup, cereal, oatmeal, etc can basically be considered same thing as drinking with meals. With that said, when you are years out, maintaining, and not having a problem with being hungry between meals, then having soup isn't a problem.
Here's a really good visual about what happens when we drink with meals: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xR0VM3mnsgM
