A blast from the past

Hi everyone! I've not posted in a while, but read every day. Congrats to all the losers and those soon to be on the bench!

This journey is not without its trials and tribulations as well as joys and delights. Last week something happend that made a jumbled mess of all of the above.

I had RNY on Sept. 23, 2011. I checked into the hospital at 235 and now at 8 months out am 176.25. That's 58.75 lbs. I'm a slow loser, but it is going!

My husband was on facebook and found a picture of me taken about 2 years ago, I think at my all time highest weight. I was first amazed at the difference, then happy about my success so far. I printed the picture out and looked at it all day today. I was very surprised to find myself getting sad. I wished that I could get it off facebook. All these feelings are very hard to sort through and to process. I can't just eat it away anymore!

Anyone else have problems with the past coming to bite them on the butt? How did you handle it?

I just want to add that one consequence of this surgery is that I have become more compassionate. I have such compassion now for others who are still struggling with obesity. I didn't when I was in those shoes myself. ??? But now that I am more compassionate and tolerant of our many challenges and difficulties, I've had to learn to show that compassion for the old me as well. I'm learning to love the me who struggled and was sad for so many years.

I understand! Comming from a HUGE family, there are lots of pict out there that I wish I could forget. The reality is that one of those picts is the reason I did what I did. I knew I was over wt but never really "SAW" myself until a family memeber posted a picture of a family gathering. I cried and cried. I could not believe that was me. I am the picture taker in my home so I had not seen a pict of me for a very long time. The mirror we have in our bath is not at all one to see yourself in.
I made a copy of a pict of me from back then and now I celebrate who I was and who I have now become!! It was me back then, as it was you. now is the time to create new memories with new pictures. Let those old pictures keep you in check of where you don't want to go back to.
And for the future, get in all those picts! Document this journey and enjoy the new you!
