A blast from the past

Hi everyone! I've not posted in a while, but read every day. Congrats to all the losers and those soon to be on the bench!

This journey is not without its trials and tribulations as well as joys and delights. Last week something happend that made a jumbled mess of all of the above.

I had RNY on Sept. 23, 2011. I checked into the hospital at 235 and now at 8 months out am 176.25. That's 58.75 lbs. I'm a slow loser, but it is going!

My husband was on facebook and found a picture of me taken about 2 years ago, I think at my all time highest weight. I was first amazed at the difference, then happy about my success so far. I printed the picture out and looked at it all day today. I was very surprised to find myself getting sad. I wished that I could get it off facebook. All these feelings are very hard to sort through and to process. I can't just eat it away anymore!

Anyone else have problems with the past coming to bite them on the butt? How did you handle it?

can you ask the person that posted it to remove it???.. I haven't had surgery yet, but i can only imagine the emotions that rolled with that picture.

You did the right thing coming and posting here to ask for guidance and support. Keep up the great work and hope that someone with the experience can help you.

You should be able to untag any photos that you don't want of you :)

Well,you can if they've 'tagged' you..if it's just up there but not tagged, then I'd ask them to remove it.

I didn't have any pix of myself before surgery, and I had to go around and ask for them..how horrible they all are. BUT, I saved each and every one as a reminder..and a motivator of how far I've come!

I'm afraid that picture is part of wedding photos, so I would really feel bad to suggest they remove the three of them. Afterall, it was their day.

Dont sweat it that was 2 years ago alot of time has past..people change! Im not going to be able to take back our wedding photos family pictures and all that i just say yep that WAS me but this ia me.NOW. :) take care

first off great job on your loss. I just had mine back april of this year and I just cant wait to see the difference. As far as the pic goes you should feel so very proud of yourself and of how far you have come.

I'm not really so concerned over the photos. They are part of a friend's special day. I'm wondering how to work with the emotions and feelings that they evoked. I sure wasn't expecting to feel sad for that woman in the picture.

I know how you feel -- my girls have all kinds of pics on fb -- including me at my heaviest. They are friends with my ex-husband and I hate that he could see me in all my fat glory (NOT). But you know what -- I don't look like that anymore, and I am so proud of how I am looking -- so who cares about the past! Let him look now! LOL

Maybe you can view it as an accomplishment, print it out and put it where you see it and every time you see it tell your self "look at what I've done! I am doing AWESOME!" It's a technique called positive reinforcement. I didn't believe that simply telling yourself something you didn't believe deep down would work, but years ago I was talked into trying it, and it really works. If you tell yourself something enough times, the feelings behind what you are saying will follow. I was convinced to try it for two weeks and in about a week and a half I really started to feel better about myself.
It's worth a try. I will pray for you.

Remember what you were. REJOICE WHAT YOU ARE !!!!! You took control and thats what anyone will think who sees your B-4's. I think they will admire your drive !!!!!!! Smile, and pet that cute kitty for me !!!! What a beautiful animal !!!!!

It sounds like you might have to mourn her a bit and forgive her as well. I do not know what emotions it is bringing up for you, but I know for me, it is sad to think of all the wasted time I was heavier. I can not change the past, but I can work on the present and future. Say farewell to that person and keep the positive things that she taught you. She is important and part of you. Weight does not change who we are, but it does change how we might act and how we are looked upon by others. Be her friend and take care of her.. the old her and the new her. Best of luck with all.

Being heavy has allowed many of us to grow as people. I find that we often have more grace to extend to others. For whatever reason, this was the path you were on to become who you are today.

It is okay to mourn her, but also take time to thank her....thank her for her perseverance, her hope that things could change, her beauty, and her sadness. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. The extent to which you have known sadness is the extent to which you can know joy now....that is a gift she has given you!

I too find myself sad when I think about the many years that I spent trying to lose weight but continually gaining. When I figured out that dieting was only making me fatter, I felt really hopeless. I was looking at some photo albums today, and I too was sad. But when I look in the mirror now, even with the lines on my face, I look healthier and happier. And I am! So I try not to dwell too much on what is done and gone. Try to think about all that you have ahead of you and be joyful for the hope you now have for the future. :)
