Hey everyone! Hope you all are doing well! Looking for some support and advice! I'm 4 months into my pre-surgery program. I've lost 40 lbs and have been going along with all my appointments. Next Tuesday I have my testing appointment. I think I had an epiphany today that surgery is getting closer very quickly. I'm still very scared. I've been doing a ton of research. I've been going to my support group meetings and learning lots. Is this feeling of nervousness ever going to stop? I keep questioning myself every day. Is this normal? I'm still very excited to get it done, but I guess I am very scared too.

Normal! You are going in for surgery!

I think I was so excited for mine I was never nervous but boy....when I went in to have half my thyroid removed I was a basket case.

Are you having RNY? It's all so routine now. You'll be fine and it's all so worth it.

Surgery is a big step, and I think we were all nervous to some degree. I guess I looked at the benefits versus not having it, and almost 5 years out now, I don't know I would have lived this long without it.
Obesity is a dangerous disease, one that can kill you quickly, at an early age. Weigh that against the real, but slim, risks associated with general surgery. For me, it helped me face it with less fear.

It's very normal to be scared before having surgery. Very normal. I remember quizzing my anesthesiologist like crazy. I told him I wanted him to promise to wake me up. He said he planned to do way more than that. It all worked out really well for me. On the 19th of this month, I will have my five year surgiversary. It's been all good since then. I'm healthier and happier now than I was five years ago. I hope you have similar results. :)

It is so totally normal to feel scared. It is a huge change but look at what you've done so far. 40lbs! Look at how much you've gone through and survived just to get to this point. If you can do what you've already done...you will do just fine with the surgery..

I had my surgery (RNY) less than 2 weeks ago, ended up have 3 other surgeries along with it...and I feel fantastic. Still get a little tired but there's less pain than I anticipated by a long shot, and that was when I thought I was only having a bypass. And I've lost 16 pounds in 9 days. Take a breath. You've got this!

Thank you for the kind words everyone. I am having RNY. Looking at March for the time frame. I think I realized it's already November and it just really rocked me. I go for my testing on Tuesday. I am nervous about that but I will be glad to have it done. I know that this a long process and a complete life change and I have been welcoming it with open arms! I am busting my butt right now. I am trying to lose as much weight as I can before surgery to make sure that it all goes well. I am sure the closer I get I am going to become even more of a basket case. I am hoping that everything goes well with my Psych evaluation to. I know this is a tool. And I really am looking forward to getting it done. Glad to know that it is normal to have the reservations that I am having.

I have a timer on my private blog... yup, counting down... sure it's scary, for a ton of reasons... but you'll be fine. Here for ya if you ever need to talk. Hi all, I'm having the op RNY on the 19th as well, I'm really anxious. But determined to do it. I know if I don't I'll die fatter than I am now... Like most tried it all, to lose... I hate Milk on 11th day and more anxious as time ticks. I do feel excited now and then... I pray it will go well. I'd rather try than not... Oh I hate this feeling... Not able to eat on feeling like this is new. Part of the change, before the op... I assume your all in America? I'm in UK, Portsmouth... All best. Tom

This is a major surgery and with any surgery they will give you a long list of complications. I went in knowing them. I made sure all my affairs were in order and that my husband knew where everything was. Just doing this left me with a deep sense of peace. I knew that if I didn't have surgery that I would have a shortened life. I am not afraid of crossing over because I believe in eternal life. I've had enough surgeries that I knew I could have checked out with any of them. I knew that I wouldn't with this one but being prepared is always my thing. Keep focusing on the positive!
