3 days post op and OUCH!!!!

Well I am home now, I came home yesterday 11-8. I've been asking myself what the hell did I do, the pain is huge. I know it will pass and I will move on. I have a rough night ended up with bad gas pain and then I started throwing up (was nothing in there to throw up) I think the pain meds made me sick. Well today is a new day and I am feeling a bit better than yesterday the pain is not as bad (still a 7 out of 10) the only thing now is to eat. Going to get it down today I hope. I have a six inch incision on my stomach and a drain tube in for the next two weeks. I am sleeping in my chair as I cannot lay down. Everyone I have talked to on here and in the hopsital all say to get up and walk, I am trying to but everytime I do my pulsox goes from 95 to 79 quickly and I start fight for air, still the hospital sent me home with no oxygen, I hope they know what they are doing.

And I haven't even had the vomiting or the dumping that you've had, so you are experiencing worse than I, and like I said, I was feeling like I was gonna die till last night.

So, I hope you have people at home and family helping you. ((((hugs))))

Hi! I can empathize. Yes, it is painful. Gas was bad for me too. My friend got me phazyme soft gels. I took a pin and poked one end of it and bit out the liquid. I took two. Got rid of gas pain fast and for good. Make sure you follow the directions for what you are allowed to eat and for how long. I did some dry heaving with soft eggs at first. Give it time..it gets better. I did not have the tube but an awful drain hole that is just now stopping it's leaking after.....5 weeks!!! I go for my 2nd dr. trip Thursday. Mine was laproscopic.

3 days ....you should be on full liquids only. Just gradually build up your diet... next stage will be mushy and strained foods..very soft as you can tolerate.

Moonlight102 I had RNY but I have a six inch incision on my stomach along with the drain tube. I had my surgery at nine am on November the sixth and was home on Friday at one pm November the eighth. I'm doing much better today, starting to eat now, mostly clear liquids. Tomorrow or Tuesday I will see how I tolerate cream soups. The gas pain is subsiding but when I go pottie (take a poop) it's all blood. I was told it would be for a little while but, it is a bit scary looking. Most of my pain now is from the work that was done, I'm not taking my pain meds and I probably should but, the taste of it makes me gag. I need to find a way to hide the taste. Thanks to everybody for being there for me but, if you can answer me one question??? The blood for stool has that been a normal thing for everybody? and how long did it last?

I had old looking black blood in my stool only the first time I went...then never again. It was a very little amount of stool the first time because I had done a "clean out" the night before surgery.


Is you stool black or does it look like red blood? There would have been bleeding during your procedure likely as they manipulated and stitched your pouch and intestines. As blood sits for a couple hours in the stomach it turns black though....if you are seeing red I would be concerned you are still bleeding yet. Even a small amount of bright red blood would be concerning enough to call about in my opinion.

The open procedure is a bit more challenging and does take longer to heal. Be strong and of course if you have concerns call your doctors ASAP.

So sorry to hear that you're having such a difficult time! Sounds like things are getting better today. I'm very concerned about red blood in your BM, should not be happening. Please call surgeon ASAP for advice. Keep us posted! Thinking of you!

Gas does give wild pain, had a peice of bowel taken out years ago and I wanted to die. Walking helps pass gass and oxyegenates blood and will help orevent blood clots too. so many complications can be prevented. I Would check in with doctor. red blood in stool is fresh black and tary is old.

Wow I am so sorry you are going thru all of this. I had a laproscopic rny done in Dec. I went in on a friday an was told I would go home on Sunday. I ended up staying till Tuesday because my O2 stats kept dropping. They thought maybe I had a prob with the new pouch. But all was ok. Gas pain is horrible an the pain for the surgery itself is bad but it dissipates over time. 2 years prior I had a 8 inch long incision from belly button to pelvic bone for another issue so I know what you mean about moving around. But you gotta keep moving to keep things inside moving. It hurts but it will go away. Just keep pressing the fluids. Your body needs the nutrients to heal faster. As for the blood in the bm.. that is something I would call your doc about. Too much of it is not a good thing. I know I never had that happen. Good luck.
