Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
When I was a teen I lost down to 129 pounds at 5 ft 7 in. Same hieght I am now. I was boney and still had a pot belly!
I use the measuring tape and the scale, and not very often. That way, I can use the mirror to check if I have spinach in my teeth and my hair is combed and leave the rest alone.
You've done so well!! Congrats on the loss!
I have about the same amount to lose still!!!
My tummy has ALOT of loose skin...and my Dr even mentioned (my primary)...that I would probably lose an additional 20 pounds, if I had that skin removed!
Sounds like TMI, but if I lift my tummy/loose skin up, I can't believe the difference how it feels, with it NOT hanging !!
I say keep doing your cardio etc...Although when we get older, the elasticity does not come back, like it did even 8-10 years ago.
I'm 52, and when I lost 82 pounds, back in 2005, I did NOT have the loose skin like now, but I also was more active. Now I am disabled, and have been for 4 years prior to surgery, with too much pain to exercise much.
Keep your chin up! You have done so well, and im very proud of all the hard work you have put into this!
Hugs,
Boo
Part of the tummy area issue is that obesity (and pregnancy) causes the linea alba, the tissue connecting the rectus abdomens muscles, to stretch - and no amount of exercise can "tighten" it up again. The condition is called "rectus diastasis." During a tummy tuck, the surgeon "laces" it back together.
The best exercise for flattening your tummy is actually to suck it in (tighten your stomach muscles by pulling them in) and hold for 20-30 seconds. Repeat. Sit-ups build muscle, resulting in a bigger tummy (because exercising a specific body area has no effect on the amount of fat in that area, it can only build muscle). Cardio is the best way to burn fat.
