Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
:-( I love sushi too. Bummer, Oh well!!! Skinny jeans or sushi? Skinny jeans won!!!!
But, it's like protein drinks and other things. Many of us are not able to tolerate things others can and our tastes and ability to digest changes over time.
I remember at our informational seminar, the doctor was talking about beef being difficult to digest after surgery. One woman said her family raised their own cattle for meat and that was most of her diet and if that would be a problem. The doctor was very clear with all of us...Most can eat meat and beef if chewed well and not a tough piece of meat, BUT, he said he has had some patients who were never able to eat beef again for the rest of their lives.
It's as so many have said....it's an individual journey.
The thing is, making broad generalizations or spreading myths is not helping anyone. Sharing what works for each of us is what we can do here.
It's just like if I came on here and repeated what my doctor said and only said part of it. "Never eat beef again." That's only part of the story and how things get diluted when passed around. It left out the 'some people' and there would be many comments on here about people having no problems with beef.
WLS has taught me something very important. There are no real black and white issues when it comes to food choices. Sometimes I have to do the best with what's available and sometimes improvise. Never this, only that should be limited by our choices, not by myths that people have passed down 100's of times that no one knows where they originated.
