Forever! Alcohol is empty calories. The body metabolizes alcohol before anything else because it doesn't have to be broken down And has no place to store it. It goes straight to the liver.
We have a higher risk of becoming alcoholic partly because of this but also because food issues can become alcohol issues.
This happened to my sister. She died June 8, 2011. Her liver failed. Trust me it is not a pleasant way to go.
Sorry if I sound preachy but after watching my sister die this is something i feel very strongly about.

With the exception of the "transfer addiction" thing, which is very real... I haven't had any issues with alcohol. Not that I drink often. I am generally quite lame actually, but I digress. Having worked in a bar for many years prior to surgery, I did see a few ladies who were post op and found a new lust for life. And by that I mean they turned into bar flies. Suddenly this new body got them attention they had so longed for, and as the bartender it was an interesting little show to watch. I did have to go in after calling last call one night, and (with the help of a few regulars) physically pick a girl up off the toilet who had passed out cold while on the toilet. She was about 6 months post-op from a RNY. Imagine how awesome it was for her to come back the next karaoke night and see all those faces who lifted her naked drunk ass off the toilet. I loved it. Idiot. Anyways.... moral of my story here is yes, have a glass or two of wine.... no, do not take tequila shots and try to sing Shania Twain. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE will be laughing at you.

My doctor suggests we never drink again. I tried it after a year. I found no difference than before. It never did me any good so I think I will abstain.

Mine asked how much and how often I drank. I told them a couple a year and they never said anything else about it.

Thank you to everyone on here, it seems its a mix of yes and no when it comes to drinking. I really was just curious about it, I honestly don't drink at all. The last time I had a drink was probably right before I got pregnant with my daughter in 2009. After I had her I couldn't bring myself to drink because I would feel guilty having a drink knowing I have to take care of my baby and I just stayed away from it ever since. I was just wondering if it would be ok if I ever thought of having a drink again but I think I'm just going to stick to not drinking.
