All that I can say is that I am missing drinking soda and having the withdraw.

I was never a pop drinker, but coffee? Easily could drink two pots a day, with a TON of International cream & sugar!! Now, I limit myself to two cups in the morning, (instant coffee, so I have to actually get up and make it), and fat free creamer (1 tbsp) and 1 sugar. Luckily, I've always been a fan of water!! I definitely drink more than the recommended requirements. lol

I'm pre-op and I gave up pop after my informational meeting, I knew this wold be the hardest for me...pop free since 05-12 :)

I agree with Laurie 100%! Take the time pre op to get off soda be it diet or reg, get off caffine and switch to decaf cofee and tea. Quit smoking now. Start drinking 64 to 80 oz of water a day. Believe me it will be so much easier post op if you do these things! I did and don't miss any soda and I don't even drink decaf coffee now either!

I'll be a year out on Halloween. Diet Coke was my addiction pre-op. I waited a few months and started drinking it again. Now, I drink it like a fiend. I'm not going to say it's okay, I know I shouldn't be drinking it but I do and I love it. That's all.

I'm almost 2 years out and I have totally lost the taste for soda. I always drank diet soda, on the average 3 or 4 a day, I'm not sure what happened, but I'm glad it did. Chocolate is another fav that now I can not tolerate. My surgeon says I'm one of the lucky one. I don't know why this happened, but yeah for me. I don't miss soda. I usally drink water or gatorade. I semi melt about 6-7 single sugar-free popsicles almost every day. They have become my icy pre-sweet drink tweet each day.

Helps me to block out the soda.

4 yrs out and have had my first soda (diet sprite) with lots and lots of ice. Can handle it that way - almost like flavored water.

I keep diet sprite in house due to I get "air bubbles" in pouch to where heart races too fast and throat all but feels like closing up (have been to dr about it). Any way a sip or two releases the air bubble and then once that "burp" comes up heart goes back to normal.

I know some who have gone back to soda after 1 yr. I just keep it on hand for these emergencies. Approved by dr. Also soda is so costly compaired to generic diet kool aid.
