The cactus is a Beaver tail variety, right?

"La gringuita y el nopal:

"La Gringuita" is "the cute little gringo girl." So far as I know, periwinkle is a European import. It always looked like a very feminine plant to me.

I believe you have a Nopal cactus there. It is native to Central America. "Nopal" is also slang for an indigenous "good ol' boy." Well. . . as nearly as slang can be translated?

I think the botanical name for periwinkle is "Vinca" They are native to Florida. when everything else is struggling due to the heat, they are always hearty and healthy.

So Arfie, I am raising a "good ole boy" who is hanging around a "cute little gringo girl". Now, there's a song , right there.

As for the cactus, I'd say it's flourishing. Yay!!

Vinca and periwinkle are the same.

Years ago I thought they were the same plant. But someone said No, they aren't. I finally looked them up. Its also known as the Madagascar periwinkle.

In Spanish, the "indigenous" is a defining characteristic. A Castilian good ol' boy is not to be confused with a native american of any stripe. You are likely to end up with a black eye if you call a Spaniard, "Nopal."

    My day...today...misplaced my debit card...didn't realize it until I got to the register after shopping to a full cart.  Used a different debit card and pulled apart everything looking for missing debit card before I left parking lot.  Got home, dropped keys.
