Autumn is incredibly beautiful in this area. I live near the Verde Valley, Arizona. In the USA, the Verde Valley has the largest diversified animal life. That includes Alaska and Hawaii too. If you want to see some incredible photos. Type in Oak Creek Canyon, Sedona and Verde Valley Az.
With Autumn here, its time for me to pull out my Sun Flowers and Corn. Break them down and put them in a trash can full of water. And let them rot over winter with a lid on top. Then pull all the dried and weedy looking vegetable plants out of the ground. And use them to mulch my soil. I have just a few things left that are still producing. Dill, tomatoes and a few squash.
I do a quick turn of the soil to add the plants into a mulch and give the worms something to feed on. Earth worms will do a good job.
Our days are still nearly 90 degrees. But very dry and it feels comfortable. The nights are low 50s. Soon enough, our nights will be in the teens. I'm looking forward to the cold. Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas are around the corner.
I have a lot of plants, (flowers) that need to be repotted and fortified to make it through Winter. I'll bring a few into the house that are a bit more tropical and subtropical. Others like my bulbs, I'll dig up and put into the bottom of my frig.
My dads not in the best of health now. And this could be his last Winter. So I'm making plans to do a lot of decorating for Halloween and Christmas. Some corn stalks I'm setting aside to decorate for Halloween and Thanksgiving.
I hope everyone is enjoying your own weather right now. For us in the Northern Hemisphere, its getting cooler. But you others in the Southern Hemisphere are warming up.

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.
I'm pretty sure it's the poisonous strain of lepoita, but field identification is seldom as easy as the books/web make it sound.
Sounds like Autumn is still a busy season for you in the garden. It's also a nice time of year to cosy up indoors with your Dad. Enjoy the season with him.
Yes Wendy, the area is known for the Red Rocks. A lot of Iron in the land giving the rocks a rusty red look. The area is considered very sacred to the Native Americans. Its also very polarized I guess due to the iron.
There's areas that look like baron desert. You walk around a hill, and it looks semitropical. With otters and beaver swimming around.
There's incredible ancient stone Indian dwellings all over. Like Montezuma's Castle or Montezuma's Well.... Look them up also.
Its a great area.
That's nice you plan to decorate for your Dad to enjoy.
The roast and Vegetables sound wonderful.

It's persimmon season here. My pear tree looks pathetic.
Lots of work to do in fall both outside and inside. Still need to finish insulating the house and making a sidewalk out front. I plan to use gravel and geodes.
