My first ancestors to settle here (most from Germany) did put down roots on a nearby farmstead. My greatgrandfather was one of many children. One inherited the family farm, another feuding sibling would purchase the farm next door. Their grandkids still farm both .
Although my great grandfather would move to the other side of the county that background must have been instilled in him.
Three generations lived side by side. There was a huge garden, fruit trees flower beds, grape arbors, rhubarb patch, shrubs....
They also fed the birds faithfully, had a chickenhouse where I would help gather eggs daily.
This love of nature....animals... plants...would pass through the generations to our father and onto all four of us kids.

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

I have a birds nest on the rafters in my shop and I saw a bird sitting on what might be eggs and she chirped at me so I left but I haven't seen her since. I hope I didn't scare her away for good :(
Maybe I should have a maple syrup farm instead lol.
I haven’t always been interested in gardening. Years ago, my garden was just lawn. Then I started to plant annuals in pots. Gradually I’m getting more adventurous. It’s wonderful to nurture my plants and see them flourish. As the seasons go by, i’m enjoying the garden more. This year I created a new flower bed. I’m still very much a novice, so may well call on you guys for advice.
