So for some reason discussions about planting trees on my property or contacting the arbor day foundation for free trees always end up turning into an argument.
I wanted to get some trees for earth day the other day, but no, I got bulbs instead for some annuals and perennials. Yesterday I got some mulch and they had soooo many lovely trees! Even pecan trees! I got so excited because we are almost too far north to grow pecan trees, but I have Walnut trees and hickory trees with nuts.
Anyway my fiance really loves blue plums and figs. I never see fig trees here. Actually I have never eaten a fig lol. I think our climate is too wet. But plums, now they do great here. We used to have a red one. So we almost got the little blue plum tree, but it wouldn't fit in the suv with all the mulch and potting soil. Told Mom about all the trees we saw and she was an ass of course. She only likes certain kinds of trees.
But you know what? I have 72 acres of land to plant trees on. And I want trees with stuff on them I can eat or sell to someone to eat. So I'm going to get some trees anyway. Idk what kind yet.
Also I found some ornamental trees growing in one of the flower beds I cleaned out yesterday. I'm going to try to find someone to sell them to. I can dig them up and stick in pots.

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...
I found a church that is wanting the ornament trees. (Bradford pear) so I may have found a home for them today. I don't want them in my flower bed but I don't wanna kill them either.
72 acres is alot of land. Just think of all the mouths you could feed with fruits and veggies! :)
There is alot of money to be made selling potted flowers on a busy roadside. I remember paying someone $8 for a small potted yellow lady slipper which was alot of money at the time and this person had a pretty active little business, especially in the spring. There wasn't even that much traffic on the road she lived on. It was a back road which I use to travel to get to work back in the day....a little short cut....
I love pecans and walnuts also and I think I might try planting a sassafras tree this spring just to see if it survives. I figure if it doesn,t, I can always dig up the roots and make root beer :)
Bob, I have to warn you, sassafras can go nuts if you aren't careful. We used to have some growing in our fencerow at the house. It took years to finally get rid of it.
When my dad was alive, I remember one time he and I went over and cut out a bunch of the sassafras trees (I find saplings still in my yard and flower beds, I pull them out) We filled a big bucket with tree parts and boiled them on the stove and made tea. The whole house smelled so bright and fresh. My mom was furious when she discovered what we were doing. She hates the smell. Also my parents were divorced so there was a big mess in her kitchen lol.
I don't think sassafrass will like the Maine winters but I have heard of them being in the southern part of the state so I thought I'd take a chance and see what happens...
