I got my seeds in the mail yesterday from seeds now.com. gonna start tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and eggplants today indoors. I planted the bulk of the tomato seeds I got from Lowe's a few days ago. They are already sprouting!


I made starters out of saved toilet paper tubes stuck in small styrofoam coffee cups, which we always have leftover from our family reunion every year. I made labels from old yogurt and sour cream containers. When they are ready to transplant outside, I will lift out the tp tubes and just plant that. I covered them with an old clear Rubbermaid bottom. That makes a small greenhouse and also keeps the cats away.


I also bought some 72 cell jiffy starters from the dollar store for $5 each. I put all this stuff in front of the 2 south facing windows in my house.

I do not have a green thumb like you. I am a hopeless gardener...I had a weed growing in one of mine and I thought it was a veggie! lol.

I left them outside when the sun was out but took them inside in the evening.
Now I buy them already started.

If you had weeds and the plants didn't make it, maybe your soil was contaminated? It's important not to use just dirt or old soil. That will have bugs, weeds, and less nutrients.
I'm just using seeds because I had some saved from last year and could order more online. Trying not to go out anywhere. Mom is worried about getting the virus.

I think it is contaminated...I love growing things but I may have to find another plot to grow on.

Well if you start things indoors, use potting soil specifically for starting seeds if you can. It's usually like peat or composty. Then when you transplant outdoors, try to make raised beds. I'm trying to build raised beds now out of old pallets. It makes controlling the soil easier.

I like the look of raised beds but it would be so expensive filling them with gardening soil?

Well not necessarily. Depends what you put in them. Typically you put gravel or mulch in the bottom for drainage. And if you have a compost bin, you want to put some of that in there. Bags of top soil and potting soil, even manure, are super cheap at Rural King.
Depending on what you are planting, you can also put dried grass clippings on top, not just to keep out weeds, but you can plant potatoes in there.

    check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

     I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...
