Built a huge raised bed. Today I'm going to fill it with dirt and put up the trellis. We had to go get some wood and 2 tposts yesterday because we actually ran out. It was about $35. While we were out we also got more dirt and some plants.
My plan for the large bed is to use the pallet slots at top to plant companion plants, so I bought alyssum, marigolds, and chamomile to put there to attract pollinators. I also got some cilantro and curled parsley, which is so pretty! And I started basil from seed in the house, and I also have thyme seeds.
I was having no luck starting my eggplants from seed so i bought 2 eggplants to put with tomatoes and sweet peppers in the large bed. I will also put some onions in there. I plant onions everywhere. Alot of my tomatoes died in the house so I bought 4 tomato plants. I also got 2 zucchini plants. I hope the damned squash bugs don't get them this year. I bought some sevin dust too, which is a powder insecticide.
Today I need to get the finishing touches on the final raised bed, and finish filling everything with dirt. This pic also shows my lettuce beds, which temporarily have mesh over them to keep out birds.

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...
We are still about a month away from planting up here. All danger of frost has not yet past. We had snow in the forecast for last night and today but it's been mostly rain.
You seem to have a vast knowledge of growing healthy foods which will be important in the future and I really think you should teach what you know, Many people would love to learn how to be a good steward of the earth.

I bought a bathtub size Rubbermaid full of used canning jars last year, and a good old pressure canner. Just $30 from a client at work. I also have a hot water bath for jams and pickles, and some new lids and rings. You don't have to buy new jars, just lids.
I really hope I can at least can tomatoes this year. And beans.
Next week is when most people plant here, but since I am using raised beds and there is no frost in the forecast, I went ahead and planted everything. Mostly seeds, and a few seedlings. Raised beds keep the soil warmer FYI.
I need a new hose. I've been watering with a bucket from the rain barrel. I need a new wheelbarrow too, would help pick up the grass clippings when I take. All that is getting used as mulch. I really hope we have more success with the garden this year.
