Gambling Addiction & Recovery Support Group
Compulsive gambling is an urge or addiction to gamble despite harmful negative consequences or a desire to stop. A preferred term among many professionals is problem gambling, as few people described by the term experience true compulsions in the clinical sense of the word. Problem gambling often is defined by whether harm is experienced by the gambler or others rather...

Quitting gambling is a process as I'm sure you know. You did the right thing getting back in the wagon and posting here right away...so kudos to you for that. I, too, have quit & relapsed repeatedly. When I first tried to quit I couldn't go more than a couple days before gambling again, but I kept trying. Then I was able to go longer with each attempt at quitting, learning something from each success and subsequent failure. It's really not a failure to slip...its a learning process. What did you learn from your slip? I know I am very cautious about consuming alot of alcohol in the early on stages of quitting. It's so easy to throw all caution to the wind when we're inebriated. Maybe cut down on the drinking til you get some more time under your belt? It's just a suggestion... Even though we all have the same addiction, different strokes for different folks, ya know? Only you knows what works best for you. Keep learning & tuck those tools you've learned away mentally, or better yet, make a list. Instead if this, I will do (fill in the blank). I know Quit4good & other fellow CG's on here have made a personal "slip prevention" plan. Your quit is like a muscle, the more you work your recovery, the stronger the muscle gets. Kudos on the time you did have gamble free. And, remember, no matter how long any of us has been GF, the only day that matters is TODAY. You only have to do today. Let tomorrow and yesterday worry about itself. Hang in there...I'm rooting for you (((BIG HUG))) Cathy
I'm 5 days GF and still think about it a lot. It helps me, and might help you too to give up drinking for a little while. I know I can't trust myself after a couple beers, so either drink just one or two or don't drink until you have a couple months GF. You know? I also only carry 20$ cash on me. Your two months GF means you know how to quit and you CAN quit!
I am trying to keep myself up and not be too hard on myself, but I cant stop thinking about how I will get myself out of this hole that Ive created.
I attended the GA call last night and there were many who have been in my shoes and I am trying to keep focusing on how there were many who have been in places that are worse.
I hope to get the strength to move on.
I hope to find a job soon, and get myself out of where I live since the closest casino, is only 2 miles away.
I have self banned myself from all the casinos, but these guys still let me gamble.
Hence, I have decided to get myself out of here soon!!!
Need all the support I can this week.
Thank you all.
I have hurt myself in a financial way that there is no end in sight, but honestly -I know I am still one of the lucky ones. I have support and a roof over my head. I am going to meetings and TODAY I did not gamble. If drinking is your trigger, all I can say is -how much do you love to drink? No need to get upset. It is a simple question. I, myself, would rather drink than eat... or do anything else for that matter! But, with the help of another 12 step program, I was 12 years sober on February 2nd (Groundhog Day). Guess what? I took not one once of pride or pleasure in that -because my brain is giving all my attention to my gambling addiction! We CAN get back into being gamble free with the help of our higher power, the good members of DS and perhaps GA. I know it isn't for everyone, but it is the route I am choosing. Hugs, ~atticus
