I thought I could do it; but it's worse than ever. I just lost my boyfriend because I promised Him I would stay out of the casinos after he lent me money for my bills. I couldn't do it. I went Wednesday and yesterday.
I wrote hot checks at four casinos. Called a relative in another state and told them I'm in a financial bind. They are sending money. I am praying that I can really quit this time. I have an appointment with a therapist this week. I am publicly making this vow here and now that I will no longer gamble. Also I will not drink in excess. I pray God will help me with this. I am turning it over to Him. I just can't take it anymore.
I feel just like I did when my husband died two years ago. I have no hope for the future.

I'm happy to see that you've made a determination to stop- I strongly urge you to find someone to manage your money at least for the foreseeable future, even if that means someone looking over your shoulder while paying off bills and debts.

Its good that you're here. We are here for you. Its so hard to quit.
Maybe self banning would help you. I self banned myself fom7 different casinos. I picked a day and planned the day trip with my brother hitting all 7 casinos in one day. Just knowing that if I ever go back they could escort me out and arrest me for trespassing, is enough to keep me away from ever going back. I wouldn't try quitting smoking right now. I would just work on staying gf for now.

The failure is not in falling but in not getting up again. Get your fight on! Use every tool you can, like the posters before me said, self ban, have someone manage your money, GA, counseling, anything you can. You can do this

GA meetings have worked wonders for me. If possible go to the first GA meeting you can attend. You will find lots of support there and people who have been there, done that.

Thank you so much for coming on the site and sharing. It takes courage... the whole thing does. I am starting over today and I have been trying to completely quit for a long time. We can start together. You will love this site and the people here that can help. We all know how you feel, in one way or the other. Everyone's story is different with the underlying theme of this awful addiction and compulsion to gamble. Please keep coming back - we can all help eachother.
