It would be easy for me to abandon my recovery during this pandemic. Everyone is on edge, the world feels upside down, nowhere feels safe, routines are shattered, fear abounds...the atmosphere is ripe with all kinds of uncertainty and anxiety that just makes me to want to run away and numb myself with gambling. Casinos are closed, but as an addict, I could probably find a way. So I am posting this to remind myself that even though that list of scary stuff is true for me at this moment, it is also true that I do not need to gamble to get through this to the other side. I need to remind myself that what I've learned in recovery can only help, especially taking things one day at a time, focusing on what I can control, and trusting my higher power. Today I will not gamble, and I wish all of you health and calm during this crazy time.

Not only have I thought about gambling during this pandemic but also other other habits like drinking and cigarettes. When I play it out in my mind, all the way to the addicted end, I can say to myself, no, I don't want to do that. My inner introvert is satisfied and my inner extrovert wants out It is a daily struggle. Face to face support group is now meeting over Zoom weekly, as well as a meditation group on Saturday morning. Trying to exercise a little and not be too hard on myself. Meditation while I am not real good at it, is helpful for relieving the anxiety for me.

It is as it is, that is a fact,
the Pandemic is a reality and somewhat like an addiction, it comes out of nowhere, kicks our lives and what do we have left. Hope, courage,
I have been helped by the terrible times, so grateful the casino's are shut down,
It has been 90 days since I gambled and i am building one day at a time on a healthy and new way of life.
I appreciate and thank all who are on this site,

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change to change the things I can
and the wisdom, (which I call honesty) to know the difference.
