Re-reading old posts

This morning l've been re-reading some old posts out there.  I didn't think this could help me.  It does!  Viola!  Another tool to add to my arsenal.   


In some aspects of my life I can practice patience like it's nothing!  I consider it to be one of my virtues.  But when I thought about re-reading my old posts and your old posts it seemed like a waste of time!  DUH!  It helps like mad crazy!  


Re-reading old posts reveals so much about my addiction and me.  Patience is another tool I can use today.  When I feel that urge to gamble I'll gently remind myself to re-read these stories of defeat and courage.  I'll be patient and let the urge pass.  It has before so I know I can do it again.


Today I'll be patient and today I will not gamble.  Read On, friends

Reading and writing/contributing here helps a lot. I quit in June 2015, and thought I was off the hook after about 16 months. And then, 2 months after that -- 18 months in -- I relapsed. And then 3 months after that.

It's been three weeks since my last relapse. I'm hanging in there. But I will definitely be keeping the forum as a part of my constant recovery process.

The more tools the better! Just like moods change, the tool needed for the day may change. One day it may be just going for a walk, one day it may be reading, one day it may be a GA phone call or a meeting, one day it might be starting a new project, one day it might be cleaning those junk drawers or one day it might be journaling like crazy! Anything to replace the thoughts of the addict. Some days I talk to the addict (as if it was a different person). Some days I hold up my hand and say "stay the hell away from me!" I must learn to be the boss of my addiction at all times, one day at a time. I no longer want to be the spineless jerk who lets the addict in control. Yes, I revisit that jerk because I care about it, it is part of me, and I have to somehow learn to love that part of me, too, because it is who I am and who God made me. I have faith in the Lord that he sent me down this path for a reason. Maybe this is the way he is showing me that He does not leave us and loves us no matter who we are or what we have done. If we have faith, we can give our worries and troubles to the Lord and he will provide for us. Prayers will be answered when His timing is right. Today I pray for patience for us all. Patience to take recovery one day at a time.

I'm working on a baby blanket for my next-to- be grand baby! I love taking a ball of yarn and turning it into a useable item. When I'm working on my project I think about how one stitch at a time it slowly comes together, and how every stitch matters. If I mess up I can re-do that stitch, I love that part of creating. I love the feel of the yarn running through my fingers... I'm crocheting, btw. It requires patience. I love that that part, too. It's a lovely way to pass time

Love to crochet too! I'm starting a prayer shall for my church this week to donate to nursing home but can't decide what pattern! Lovely way to pass the time in a constructive way! Stitch away my friend! Congrats on the future grandbaby!
